Blackeyed Theatre

Blackeyed Theatre "one of the most innovative and critically acclaimed theatre companies on the touring circuit today" The Stage

Blackeyed Theatre is one of the UK’s leading touring theatre companies, with over twelve years experience of bringing exciting, high quality work to over a hundred towns and cities across the UK and beyond. There are two common misconceptions in the world of theatre: firstly that work that’s commercially successful can’t be ground-breaking, unconventional or brave; and conversely that work that is

ground-breaking, unconventional or brave can’t also be commercially successful, even self-funding. Our belief is that theatre can and should be sustainable, both commercially and artistically. What that means in practice is performing work that people want to see in ways that can still surprise, provoke and inspire. That means remembering what it is to be an artist, what it is to create and not being dependent on public money to do so. So at a time when the choice of theatre being offered to audiences and venues is increasingly narrow, we commit to continue offering exciting, affordable work that attracts a wide audience while creating a theatrical experience that entertains, provokes and inspires in equal measure.

We're excited to announce that Hal Chambers will be directing our autumn revival of Dracula! Hal has directed work around the UK, for the likes of Stephen Joseph Theatre, Theatre by the Lake and Hull Truck. His recent production of the musical The Last Five Years, co-produced by Theatre Royal Bath, Reading Rep and The Barn Theatre Cirencester, was nominated for a Whatsonstage Award for Best Studio Production.

Dracula opens in September - more updates coming soon!

This is it. The final ride to Reichenbach as we take to the stage for the very last performance of The Hunt for Moriarty. We're so fortunate to work with such wonderful humans and our sincere thanks go out to all of them - Duncan, Jay, Victoria, Mark, Pippa, Ben, Eliot, Robbie and Gavin, as well as our fantastic artistic team - Thank you and bravo! Here's to a fabulous final bow!

To everyone who expressed interest in casting for The Turn of the Screw, a big thank you for taking the time to get in touch. To say we were inundated would be an understatement, and if you weren't shortlisted it's worth remembering that for the six roles we received nearly 4,800 applications. Sadly we only have so much capacity to see people's work and we know there are many many many brilliant artists we simply won't get the chance to meet this time round.

The casting process continues over the next few weeks and we look forward to announcing our final cast in June.

Wonderful experience at the Theatre Royal Wakefield for Sherlock Holmes: The Hunt For Moriarty by the superb Blackeyed Theatre - first class performances all round! Please do look them up for future shows, you're certainly in for a treat.

The staff were absolutely brilliant, very warm, welcoming and helpful. If you get a chance to visit this gorgeous theatre, I highly recommend it.

Fun fact... on 4 May 1891 Sherlock Holmes met Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls. It wasn't the happiest of endings. Rather than chat through their differences over a light tea, they both fell to their death. Or did they? 135 years on, we're revisiting one of literature's greatest rivalries as THE HUNT FOR MORIARTY continues its UK tour.
