Yes, yes .... Please do bring a reusable bottle. We have amazing soft water here at School Annex so no need for that over priced bottle stuff!

To help us eliminate the huge amount of waste created by plastic bottles and to be kind to our environment, we ask that you bring reusable water bottles when visiting. Small steps like this will make a big difference for generations to come.

A fascinating bit of industrial heritage from Wales. I had no idea there were so many pit ponies. To get a real feel for what it must have been like for Robbie and the miners, we recommend our visitors go to Big Pit National Coal Museum, just a short drive from School Annex

On 25th May 1999 the last pit pony in South Wales, 'Robbie', worked his last shift underground at Pant y Gaseg, Pontypool.

In 1913 there were 70,000 ponies working underground in Britain's coal mines, gradually replaced by mechanised haulage, until by 1984 only 55 ponies were still in use.

Small ponies no more than 12 hands high were needed, with Shetlands being a breed commonly used because of their small size. The ponies were stabled underground, coming to the surface only during the colliery's annual holiday. They would work an eight-hour shift, during which they might haul 30 tons of coal.

What a year but grateful to be living in this beautiful place and to have met some lovely people during the times when we were allowed to do so. Thank you so much to those that stayed with us and, we hopefully can look forward to welcoming more people back during 2021. In the meantime take a peek at the amazing star gazing to be had right on our doorstep, or if staying in the School Annex, even from your bed!

There are so many places to explore from here that don't mean hiking with hoards of other people up Pen y Fan, and the likelihood is that you won't see another person ...

But in order for our Artisans to have time to make a really special handcrafted gift (and as you may be at home this weekend & have some time on your hands as the weather is so winterlike), this is the ideal time to plan ahead to arrange really unique gifts for this really unique year!
