Peak season isn't always the best season!

Travelling during shoulder season — the period just before or after a destination's busiest weeks — can have some brilliant advantages 👇

💰 Better value
Flights and accommodation can often be cheaper outside peak dates, so your holiday budget may stretch further — perhaps towards a nicer hotel, upgraded room or an extra experience.

👫 Fewer crowds
Popular destinations can feel completely different without the peak-season crowds. Attractions are quieter, restaurants are easier to get into and the whole experience can feel much more relaxed.

☀️ More comfortable temperatures
For destinations around the Mediterranean, spring and autumn can be gorgeous. You can still enjoy sunshine and warmth without necessarily having to sightsee in the intense heat of July and August.

🏨 More choice
Travelling outside the busiest weeks can mean better hotel and room availability, giving you more options to find somewhere that's really right for you.

❄️ And shoulder season isn't just about summer holidays…

As a Lapland holiday specialist, this is something I talk about with my customers too.

Most people automatically think of December when they think of Lapland — Father Christmas, snowy forests, reindeer and huskies! 🎅🦌

But Lapland's winter season doesn't suddenly end when Christmas is over.

✨ January and February can be absolutely magical.
You can still experience those incredible snowy landscapes, husky and reindeer adventures, snowmobiling and cosy cabins — but you're travelling after the extremely popular pre-Christmas period.

And if seeing the Northern Lights is high on your wish list, the long, dark Arctic nights give you plenty of opportunity to go aurora hunting too. 💚

March can be another fantastic time for a Lapland adventure, with longer daylight hours while there's usually still plenty of snow for winter activities.

🎅 December – perfect if the Father Christmas experience is the priority
🌌 January & February – fantastic for a snowy Arctic adventure and Northern Lights
☀️ March – longer days, winter activities and beautiful snowy scenery

The "best" time to travel isn't necessarily the busiest time.
