Learn to ride a bike or gain the confidence to cycle more
Active Devon is working in partnership with Devon County Council to offer FREE,1-hour cycle training sessions for adults (18 or over) who live or work in Devon. The sessions are designed to improve people’s cycling skills and confidence, and are delivered by qualified cycling instructors, in a safe and supportive environment.

These sessions are perfect for anyone who is keen to cycle more – from complete beginners to those returning after a period of absence, or anyone who would like to increase their confidence on-road.

What can I expect from the session?

The session will last one hour, in groups of up to 3 people. If you don’t have a bike and helmet, you can borrow one for free on the day.

Here’s an idea of what your session will cover:

How to adjust and fit your helmet correctly
How to check your bike is safe to use
Using your bike gears effectively
Make short road journeys safely
Feel more confident cycling among cars and traffic
Riding in small groups

How can I book a cycle training session?

You can book with us direct here: https://calendly.com/activedevon/seachange

Spaces are limited, so booking early is advised.

Sessions take place from Seachange (East Budleigh Road, Budleigh Salterton, Devon, EX9 6HF), on Wednesday 17th September 2025.

Following a cliff fall at Budleigh Salterton beach on Saturday, we want to remind residents and visitors to avoid the affected area and to follow all warning signs, safety barriers and instructions. Cliff falls are a natural and unpredictable occurrence along the East Devon coast. The cliffs in this area are made of soft rock, which is particularly prone to erosion, rock falls and landslides that can happen at any time—especially following periods of heavy rain or extended dry weather.

We are monitoring the site and liaising with relevant partners.

The Coastguard advises that people remain at least the height of the cliff away from its base—for example, if a cliff is 20 metres high, a distance of 20 metres should be kept. Do not explore recent cliff falls, as there is a risk of further collapses.
If you suspect someone has been injured in a cliff fall, please call 999 immediately and ask for the Coastguard. Do not attempt to climb or access the site yourself.
The safety of residents and visitors is our highest priority. Read more about cliff safety, by clicking the link in the comments.
