Following the removal of the EU’s ban on liquids over 100 millilitres, Northern Ireland's three airports now feature cutting-edge scanners capable of screening up to 2 litres of liquids.
Passengers can carry up to two litres of liquids, gels, and pastes in their cabin baggage while travelling through Belfast City Airport, Belfast International Airport, and City of Derry Airport.
A Belfast City Airport spokesperson noted, "Thanks to our 2024 security upgrades, passengers can now carry up to 2 litres of liquids, gels, and pastes in their cabin baggage. Electronic devices like phones, tablets, and laptops can remain in bags during security checks."
They added that this should enhance the convenience for passengers who already experience a fast journey through the airport. Passengers are advised to check guide lines at other airports where these changes might not apply yet.
At Belfast International Airport, passengers can take up to two litres of liquids in their luggage as mentioned on the website. This adjustment expedites security and enhances passenger experience, though travellers should still check guidelines at non-participating airports.
City of Derry Airport’s Security Manager, Tracy Duffy, confirmed the new CT Cabin Baggage Scanners at their fully operational security checkpoint. She shared, “Our new CT Scanners streamline security processing, allowing liquids, aerosols, and gels up to 2 litres, and electronic items can remain in bags. This advancement marks a new era in passenger travel, enhancing the overall travel experience.”
