What if the ultimate luxury isn’t what we own… but how well we live?

I recently read an article about longevity becoming the new currency of luxury, and it immediately made me think of the world’s Blue Zones, places where people have traditionally lived exceptionally long, healthy lives.

One of those original Blue Zones is Sardinia.

The heart of Sardinia’s remarkable longevity is found particularly in the mountainous communities of Ogliastra and Barbagia, where villages such as Villagrande Strisaili, Perdasdefogu, Ulassai, Seulo and Orgosolo have become known for extraordinary numbers of centenarians.

What fascinates me is the contrast.

Some of the world’s wealthiest people are now investing huge sums in preventative medicine, diagnostics, personalised wellness and longevity programmes.

Yet many of the lessons from Sardinia are beautifully simple:

🌿 Move naturally throughout the day
🥗 Eat simple, nourishing food
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Stay close to family and community
🙏 Have faith, purpose and a reason to get up each morning
🌤️ Spend time outdoors
❤️ Maintain strong friendships and relationships
🕯️ Slow down and make space for rest
🍽️ Eat well, rather than excessively
😊 Stay connected to life

And perhaps that is the real luxury.

In Sardinia, wellbeing isn’t necessarily something booked into an hour at a spa.

It is woven into everyday life, walking through villages, eating together, talking to neighbours, spending time with family, remaining active and connected, and living with a strong sense of belonging and purpose.

Maybe what we are now calling longevity luxury is something Sardinians have understood for generations.

Not simply living longer.

Living well for longer, surrounded by people, purpose and places we love.
