🌍 Hands up, who knows where Timor Leste is without Googling it? 🙋♀️
I’ll admit, it’s probably not the first place that springs to mind when you start thinking about your next holiday.
It’s in Southeast Asia, between Indonesia and Australia, and it’s one of the destinations featured on Intrepid’s 2027 Not Hot List.
The whole idea behind the list is to look beyond the places everyone else is heading to and discover some of the lesser visited destinations and experiences around the world.
And there are some crackers on there:
🌿 Kenya
Head beyond some of the busier safari areas into Samburu National Reserve, looking out for the rare Samburu Special Five.
🥾 Georgia
Trek the Transcaucasian Trail through forests, mountain passes and incredible scenery, including Chaaladi Glacier.
⛵ Greece
Sail between Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos. A completely different way to experience the Greek islands.
🍃 Sri Lanka
Walk sections of the Pekoe Trail through forests and local communities and see a side of Sri Lanka you might otherwise miss.
🌊 Timor Leste
Beautiful reefs, far fewer visitors and somewhere that definitely earns you points when somebody asks, “Where did you go on holiday?”
I really like the thinking behind this.
We all have those destinations we automatically think of when we want to go away, but sometimes it’s worth looking at somewhere you might never have considered.
