These fluffy chicks are peregrines 🦅

Perched on a sheer cliff face at Symonds Yat Rock might not look like an ideal place for a nest but, for peregrines, it’s perfect. The height keeps them safe from predators and gives them a clear view for hunting.

As part of our work installing new safety fencing, we’ve had opportunity to take a much closer look at the cliff face to better understand where the peregrines are nesting.

In a joint effort four chicks have been carefully ringed by BTO British Trust for Ornithology ringers using a special Schedule 1 licence, with specialist climbers supported by the British Mountaineering Council BMC.

Two males and two females, weighing around 2.5kg combined are healthy and being well looked after by their parents.

Peregrines often return to the same nesting site year after year, so we hope to see them back here again in the future.
