Travelling to us from the southeast via the A303 and want a quirky stop off that isn’t a traditional service station?
Look no further than Visit Hillbrush at Mere. A mere hop and a skip from the A303 there is a great cafe/restaurant (I enjoyed brunch of portabello mushrooms and poached eggs with hollandaise on sourdough today) and a fascinating museum about the history of the long-standing and royal appointed Hillbrush brush factory and a little shop for all your brush needs. And there will be brushes you never knew you needed.
We also walked into Mere and up the castle mound for fantastic views over the village and surrounds. Mere myself has some lovely historic buildings and an informative local history museum in the library too. A great little stop off.
