Bench with a view 💗

This is the bench just behind our barn.

A most special place that can never get busy (it’s only for the 2 who stay at the barn)

As well as your own private patio, where you can sit and take in some of the finest views across the Peak District, you’ll also have access to Top Riley Meadow, our private 20 acres of fields and woodland.

Gentle paths invite you to wander, pause on a bench, or simply enjoy the quiet and watch the wildlife around you. To help you make the most of it, maps, picnic blankets and binoculars are all provided in the cottage for your use during your stay.

One of the things guests often say when they arrive is how much there is to explore… and how close it all is.

So I’ve put together a simple map showing where Top Riley sits, along with 15 lovely places to visit nearby.

From gentle village wanderings and historic spots like Eyam, to iconic views around Curbar Edge and peaceful walks through Padley Gorge… it’s all right on the doorstep.

The beauty of staying here is that your days can be as full or as slow as you’d like.
A short drive out… or simply step from the door and wander.

And at the end of it all, you return to stillness, birdsong, and your own space to unwind.

It’s a lovely way to explore the Peak District without ever feeling rushed.

May has been beautiful at Top Riley.

Buttercups in the meadow, big Peak District skies, bluebells in the woodland, and slow peaceful days made for walking, resting and breathing out.

One of our May guests summed it up perfectly after staying in Pretty Wood Cottage:

“Lovely quiet, comfy place to stay with walks from the door. We didn’t use our car while we were there…”

That is exactly what we hope Top Riley offers.

A place to park up, settle in, walk from the door, and enjoy the quiet of this special part of the Peak District.

Sometimes the simplest moments become the ones you remember most. 🌿

A very good friend of ours created this beautiful map of Top Riley Meadow for our guests, helping you explore the peaceful paths, benches and wildlife that surround us here in the Peak District.

Grab your picnic bag, blanket and binoculars from your cottage and head out into the meadow. You may spot deer in the distance, birds of prey overhead, or simply find a quiet place to sit and breathe for a while.

This is the slower pace so many of our guests come here to find.

The bird song is just beautiful. So many birds having a good old sing song this morning.

Like Stepping Into a Dream…

There are moments, and places, that feel almost otherworldly.

The photo I’m sharing today captures one of them.

Soft light spilling over the hills, fields stretching out in stillness, and a quiet so deep it feels like the world is holding its breath.

It’s peaceful, pure, and just a little bit magical.

Like heaven on earth, without needing to go anywhere but here.
