Happy Chinese New Year 🧧

2024 is the year of the Wood Dragon. The wood element signifies stability, honesty, loyalty, creativity and growth, while the dragon 🐉 symbolises power, good fortune, harvest and prosperity. The Wood Dragon year is believed to cultivate progress and abundance, making it an ideal time to embark on new projects - good timing then considering this month we’re kicking off a New Bathroom project at Molly’s Cottage.

What project (if any) will you kick off this year? Tell us in the comments….

Ever wanted to go back in time? North Norfolk’s Deep History Coast is the 22-mile stretch of coastline between Weybourne and Cart Gap which has revealed the most spectacular finds. Happisburgh is the oldest archaeological site in northern Europe and West Runton yielded the oldest and largest fossilised mammoth skeleton ever found in the UK 🦣

Sounds like the perfect trail for a run 🏃‍♀️ or hike 🚶

With three daughters, we’re very much about self love, and about doing the ‘work’ to be the best, happiest and healthiest version of ourselves. That said, Des and I will have been married for 48 years this March, and those 48 years didn’t pass without us also investing in each other (as much as we invested in ourselves). We love romance, we love discovering new places, finding that new boutique hotel, or cosy Airbnb, or traditional country pub with wonderful food, the perfect lighting and a roaring fire! Sipping the wine, sipping it again 😉 and enjoying the ambience of the life being lived around us.

Whatever your plans are this year, continue to make time for yourself and the people that matter in your life. Whether that’s a home cooked meal, a takeaway, a Dine in for 2 (we all love 💖 those) or spending a fortune on an overpriced table at your favourite restaurant, or even a night away (wink wink, book up now 😉). Make your plans. Make time. Love the life you live. Live the life you love.

G&D x

Something a little bit different tonight; decided to take some photos (whilst Des was driving us on the road from Weybourne to Salthouse) of the evening sunset. With the headlights on the grass verges it was particularly beautiful. motionphotography

Cue Bing Crosby 🎶 Feeling lovely and festive today, and celebrating one year since Molly’s Cottage first opened to guests. Des and I popped to the cottage for a few nights on Wednesday and (amongst other things) put up the Christmas tree and decorations, ready for our guests over the next 6 weeks. There are a few additions too, a cheeky gonk style gnome, who won’t be able to see you (but might just smell you 😉).

After a very quick change-over, where we couldn’t stay at the cottage, Des and I decided to stay at the local 40 minutes from Molly’s Cottage and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, and generous portions too and the rooms were lovely, particularly loved their bathroom with the beautiful floral mural wall. Definitely going back.

Des and I are thrilled every-time someone expresses how much they loved staying there. is our first holiday rental cottage, and we’ve poured all our love and care into it.

Mental Health affects us all, if you’re struggling - there are people who want to help you:

Remember talking to someone about your mental health is not taboo, mental health is a universal right.

1. Talk to someone you trust
2. think about the kind of place you want to talk to them (where you feel comfortable, where you’re not likely to be disturbed etc) and
3. prepare yourself for their reaction. Hopefully you’ll have a good experience But there’s a chance that they may not react in the way you hope. This may be for different reasons, like they may be worried or not fully understand at first. If that’s the case, try to give them time to process what you’ve told them. It might help to give them information to read to help them understand. And don’t forget to be kind to yourself and practise self-care.

If you’re talking to someone about ‘their’ mental health, remember:

1. Find a good place to talk without distractions
2. Actively listen and ask questions
3. Ask how you can help

Last night Des and I treated ourselves to a night away - so we stayed, and ate at - The Chef/Owner studied under Michel Roux (not sure if senior or junior, we didn’t check that) and previously worked in La Gavroche. The food was absolutely fabulous, and the room lovely! Will definitely be back.

Autumn is here, but when you have days like this, Des and I love venturing out and hunting for the next to try, and add to our list of recommendations (this is probably the reasons my daughters call me a walking pub guide 😆 I do seem to have a natural talent for recalling the best hotels and pubs in most places in England - maybe it’s because I was born and bred in a pub 😉). Anyway, we were successful - and found this little gem in Brisley, Dereham, - A few miles from the small Norfolk market town of Dereham, the pub itself is on the edge of the village and overlooks Brisley's large village green 💚

Rated 4.7 on Google reviews and rated 9/10 by who said “ Any pub is going to seem like a comfy haven on a dark night (and the nights around here are properly black), but this is something the Brisley Bell does so well: often full and with a joyous noise of people drinking, eating, chatting and generally kicking back and enjoying themselves. A proper pub – but with bells on.” 🔔 it is definitely worth a visit!
