🇪🇸✨ Imagine celebrating a milestone birthday beneath the Spanish sunshine, surrounded by colourful streets, delicious tapas and unforgettable views…

That’s exactly how I spent this week with my daughter Naomi, celebrating her 25th birthday on a very special adventure through Málaga and Granada. 🥰🎂

After flying from Manchester, we hopped on the airport train into Málaga — just £2.42 each for the 12-minute journey! We stayed in vibrant Soho, explored the colourful streets and marina, and watched the sun set on a fabulous DJ cruise. 🌅🎶

Next stop was Granada, travelling First Class for just €10 extra. Our beautiful 5⭐ palace-style hotel was right in the heart of the city — perfect for enjoying tapas, wandering through the streets and soaking up those warm Spanish evenings. 🇪🇸

And, of course, the unforgettable highlight… The Alhambra Palace. ❤️

This trip was especially meaningful because it wasn’t just another holiday. It was precious time with my daughter, celebrating her 25th birthday and creating memories we’ll treasure forever.

🇪🇸 MÁLAGA, GRANADA & A VERY SPECIAL 25TH BIRTHDAY ❤️

This week I flew to Málaga with my daughter Naomi to celebrate her 25th birthday and make some very special memories together. And what a wonderful few days it’s been! ☀️✈️

We took a morning flight from Manchester and, on arrival in Málaga, walked just 3 minutes to the airport train station. £2.42 each and 12 minutes later, we were in Málaga city centre! 🚆

We checked into a great 3⭐ hotel in the Soho area – perfectly located for exploring the city and marina on foot. That evening we headed out on a sunset cruise with a DJ… such good fun and a fabulous way to start our trip! 🎶⛵️🌅

The following morning, after another wander around Málaga, it was time for our next adventure – Granada by train.

We travelled via Córdoba, and I’d booked us First Class for just €10 more across the two trains. Definitely money well spent – comfortable, relaxing and a lovely way to travel through Spain. 🚆🇪🇸

On arrival in Granada, an 80-cent tram ride took us close to our beautiful hotel – and what a hotel! A gorgeous 5⭐ palace-style property right in the heart of the city. ❤️

That evening was all about tapas, sitting outside and soaking up the atmosphere… even though it was still 34°C at 9pm! ☀️

But the real highlight came the next morning…

✨ THE ALHAMBRA PALACE ✨

We took a taxi up for our 9am small-group, three-hour guided tour and I can genuinely say it blew my mind.

The architecture, history, gardens, intricate detail, setting and incredible views were simply breathtaking. This is somewhere I would recommend everyone experience if they get the opportunity. ❤️ Afterwards, we wandered back through Granada’s beautiful streets and squares, visiting the Cathedral along the way. With temperatures reaching 40°C, a couple of hours enjoying the spa back at our hotel was very welcome! 🧖‍♀️

Our final evening was spent sitting outside a lovely family-run restaurant on the square – four generations of the same family – eating, chatting and people-watching. Sometimes the simplest moments make the best memories. ❤️

After a leisurely breakfast the next morning, it was time to head home…

Walking, tram, three trains and one plane – and everything ran like clockwork! 🙌✈️🚆

This trip reminded me just how much you can experience in a few days when everything is planned properly.

And now I’ve travelled it myself, I have the first-hand knowledge, hotel recommendations, transport tips and experiences to help create a Málaga and Granada adventure that’s just as special for you.

For me, though, this one will always be about celebrating Naomi turning 25 and the memories we made together. ❤️

🐘 World Elephant Day 🐘

Today, 12th August, is a day to celebrate these magnificent animals and, importantly, help protect them. 💚

I’m proud that Travel Counsellors has strengthened its Animal Protection Policy, removing attractions that offer elephant riding, bathing or direct contact without a protective barrier.

There are still some wonderful, responsible ways to experience elephants — seeing them roaming freely and behaving naturally, just as they should. 🐘🌿

From Thailand and Cambodia to India and Kenya, I can help you include an ethical elephant experience as part of an unforgettable holiday.

World Elephant Day is held today, the 12th August, dedicated to the preservation and protection of the World's elephants.

Back in May, we at Travel Counsellors updated our Animal Protection Policy to remove any attractions that allow elephant bathing, riding or contact with the elephants without a barrier in place. This is because these activities can cause unnecessary stress or harm to the elephants, and pose a potential safety risk to customers.

Here is a list of the Elephant Camps that meet our requirements. This is not an exhaustive list, as there are over 250 elephant camps across Asia alone so we cannot review all of them and keep up to date with their changes in policy over time. This list covers some of the most popular options.

🇬🇷 A little slice of authentic Greece… Afytos 💙

I’m writing this from the departures lounge at Thessaloniki Airport, heading back to Manchester after a fabulous 4-night stay in the beautiful village of Afytos, Halkidiki.

And what a little gem it has been! ✨

I stayed in a gorgeous small adults-only hotel with just 14 rooms – exactly my kind of place! My balcony overlooked both the pool and the sea, with breakfast served poolside each morning. By evening, the pool area became a lovely little bar, open until midnight. 🍹

Just a pleasant 5-minute stroll away was the beautiful centre of Afytos, filled with little boutique shops, pretty street cafés and plenty of traditional Greek tavernas. 🇬🇷

This is somewhere I really felt I’d embraced true Greek life – relaxed, friendly and full of character.

And then there’s the beach… WOW! 💙🏖️
Beautiful coral-blue water, sunshine, and drinks and snacks brought straight to my sunbed. What more could I ask for?!

The beach is around a 15-minute walk away and there are 106 steps to negotiate, so it wouldn’t suit everyone with limited mobility… but I decided they were the perfect excuse to walk off some of that delicious Greek food! 😂🥗

After experiencing Afytos for myself, it’s somewhere I’d be very happy to recommend to the right client. Sometimes the smaller, more traditional places are the ones that really capture your heart.
