One of the things I love most about being a personal travel agent is discovering places that I know my clients will fall in love with too.

I’ve just returned from 5 wonderful days on the beautiful Greek island of Kefalonia, staying in the charming village of Katelios.

A swim-up room, breakfast by the pool, mountain views, a sandy beach, and around 10 traditional tavernas lining the seafront just a short stroll away… sometimes it’s the simple things that make a holiday so special. ❤️

I also visited the stunning harbour towns of Sami and Fiskardo, both full of authentic Greek charm.

After 38 years in travel, I still believe there’s no substitute for personal experience and genuine recommendations. It’s why I love sharing destinations I’ve visited myself and matching them to the right clients.

🌿 A Personal Recommendation from Kefalonia 🇬🇷

As many of you know, after 38 years in travel, I still get excited when I discover somewhere special that I know my clients will love.

I’ve just returned from a wonderful 5-day break on the beautiful Greek island of Kefalonia. Although this was my own holiday, I never truly switch off from being a travel agent, and I’m always looking out for destinations and hotels that I can confidently recommend to my clients.

I stayed in the charming village of Katelios, just a 40-minute private transfer from the airport. My hotel was officially a 3-star property, but for me, the location, atmosphere, stunning pool area and beautiful mountain backdrop made it feel much more special.

I was lucky enough to enjoy a swim-up room, leisurely breakfasts by the pool, and evenings spent strolling down to the beach, where around 10 traditional Greek tavernas lined the waterfront. The sandy beach was safe, relaxed and perfect for watching the world go by.

During my stay, I also visited the lovely harbour towns of Sami and Fiskardo, both full of character, traditional charm and those picture-postcard Greek views we all dream about.

This is exactly why personal recommendations are so valuable. I don’t just sell holidays – I experience destinations, stay in hotels, explore the local area and can honestly tell you who I think they would suit.

After more than 38 years in the travel industry, I can honestly say this job has changed beyond recognition.

Airline rules, restrictions, climate challenges, political unrest… travel is far more complex than it once was, and keeping up to date is now a huge part of making sure my clients travel safely and smoothly.

This year alone has been incredibly challenging. The situation in the Middle East saw me working around the clock getting people away, home, rerouted or rebooked — often during the middle of the night. Only last week, due to political unrest in Bolivia, I had to completely redesign an incredible 10-sector South America itinerary at short notice, incorporating Argentina instead, to ensure my clients can still enjoy the trip of a lifetime safely.

A client recently messaged to say I’d been a little quiet on social media lately. The truth is, I think I’ve been so focused on looking after the clients who needed me most, that promoting myself has taken a back seat. And perhaps, if I’m honest, the wind in my sails has wavered a little too.

I still hear:
“Why are you £60 more than booking direct?”

The answer is simple.
Because I care.
Because I’m professional.
Because when things go wrong, change suddenly, or the unexpected happens… I’ve got your back.

Tomorrow I’m taking a much-needed short break to beautiful Kefalonia — my first visit there, despite sending so many clients over the years! I know a little sunshine, sea air and time to recharge will bring back the passion for a job I truly do love. ❤️

Good morning everyone and Happy Bank Holiday weekend.
I’m hoping to finish at my desk shortly to go and enjoy some Yorkshire sunshine with family and friends.
It’s been a tough time for the travel industry these passed few months, with the unrest in The Middle East.
