EVENT CANCELLED – Navigating by Stars

Sadly, due to insufficient bookings, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this evening’s Navigating by Stars event with Mark Thompson.

We are so sorry to those who had booked and were looking forward to joining us.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Friends of Hunter’s Yard. We hope to welcome Mark back for another evening in the future. ⭐

🦇 Bat Walk at Hunter’s Yard — 2nd May
Despite threatening rain, we enjoyed a brilliant evening spotting and listening to several bat species including soprano and common pipistrelles, noctules, barbastelles and finally a Daubenton’s skimming low over the water just before the rain arrived.
A huge thank you to Lee and Ginta for such a fascinating walk — and thankfully there was still time for coffee and lemon drizzle cake afterwards!
We’re already hoping to arrange another bat walk later in the summer 🦇

Stargazing Evening on 9th May Raises Funds for Hunter’s Yard

✨ Despite cloudy skies stopping us from seeing the stars above Hunter’s Yard on Saturday evening, guests still enjoyed a truly fascinating and memorable night exploring the wonders of the universe with renowned astronomer Mark Thompson.

His superb presentation, packed with mind-blowing information, energy and enthusiasm, kept everyone captivated throughout the evening, while the lively Q&A session gave guests the chance to learn even more about the night sky and beyond.

With cosy surroundings, snuggly cakes, warm drinks and wonderful company, the evening proved to be a great success and helped raise valuable funds for Hunter’s Yard & the Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event ⭐

A successful AGM yesterday with around 80 people attending — wonderful to see such support and enthusiasm for the Hunter Fleet.
Thank you to everyone at Hunter’s Yard, our wonderful volunteers, sailing skippers and everyone who contributed to making the day such a success.
The afternoon sailing was a real highlight, and Jeremy Hall’s wildlife walk was a relaxed, informative and thoroughly enjoyable saunter around the fen ⛵🌿
Hunter’s Yard remains a living museum of the Norfolk Broads and was famously featured in Arthur Ransome’s Coot Club and The Big Six from the Swallows and Amazons series.

A gentle reminder to slow down and look out for the wildlife around us 💛

We gave this little song thrush a helping hand yesterday.
Neil noticed it stunned in the road as we were driving home. So we gently encouraged it to go somewhere safe. After a few minutes it flew into the hedge and sat there looking bright-eyed and much more with it.

Welsh Reccie – Final Day
Our last day on this adventure — and what a way to finish.
Technical rock climbs and testing lines keeping us on our toes.
Defeated by waist-high, fast-flowing water (sometimes the sensible call is the only call).
And an absolutely stunning journey back to round it all off.
Challenge, restraint, and epic scenery — Wales at its finest.

Today was all about challenging river crossings and astounding scenery.
Tumbling waterfalls around every bend.
And the best surprise of all — bumping into someone we haven’t seen for nine years.
Wales always has a way of making days unforgettable.
