We were lucky enough to have restaurant food during our stay … but there was the usual burger fare on offer hidden away. As with the whole park, there are stalls selling souvenirs and the odd ice cream/snack truck … but it’s not shouting ‘buy me, buy me’ wherever you walk … and without exception, everywhere was spotless - well done

Unlike most theme parks, this one is different because you can stay on site, or off site, and you can eat on site or bring your own food. They provide plenty of space where you can picnic and there are plenty of toilets and kids play areas as well. The five hotels are themed so you can stay in a Roman town, a Viking Camp, a chateaux, a yurt style camp or a middle age fortress - how cool is that!

"Le Mousquetaire de Richelieu" is a dramatic take on the tale of the three musketeers … it takes place on a huge stage which has the largest theatre curtain in the world and is a spectacular celebration of music, dance, majestic horses & sword fights.

Le Dernier Panache - so good we saw it twice! This is a 3D theatre experience… again it tells a story so you need to use the Translator App to get the full version, but it was one of my favourites of the trip…

Next stop - L'Épée du Roi Arthur….. which we know as the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table…. again…. I’m not going to spoil the climax of this show…. but we were all amazed by the ending! This is one of the shows where you would use the translation app and have the story told in English with perfect sound and expression by actors (like an audio book)

Le Mime et L'Etoile was voted "Best Show in the World" in Los Angeles in 2024…. the show is very clever, lasts almost 30 minutes - and not a word was spoken!

Le Signe du Triomphe (The Sign of Triumph) is a gladiator style show set in a massive 6,000-seat circular Roman stadium. The audience is split into supporters of the Emperor & the common people and is a step back in time. The cast tell the story and the challenges begin. This is a spectacular show & I don’t want to show too much, but if you enjoy films of this era, you won’t be disappointed!

Le Mystère de La Pérouse was the first of several immersive walkthrough attractions we experienced at Puy du Fou.

In 1785 a ship named La Boussole set sail with famous explorer La Pérouse for an ambitious scientific expedition.

She makes her way around Cape Horn, through Alaska, and to the tropics collecting exotic animals and plants along the way. It really feels that you are walking around a sailing ship as it rolls around in the sea - it does weather a storm … but as in history, she does finally meet her match with Mother Nature.

Next stop … “Les Vikings" … a battle set in the year 1000, featuring a spectacular Viking invasion of Saint Philbert le Vieil village during wedding celebrations. I won’t spoil the surprise, but it lasts almost half an hour, they have impressive pyrotechnics, very impressive water stunts, and dramatic sword fighting.
