News from the Alps - La Thuile is investing €33.9 million, in a new Les Suches–Chaz Dura gondola, planned for the 2026/27 ski season. 🚡

For skiers, upgrades like this can make a real difference. Better lift infrastructure means smoother access, fewer awkward connections and a more comfortable day on the mountain.

The new gondola is expected to improve movement around the La Thuile sector, which forms part of the cross-border Espace San Bernardo ski area with La Rosière in France. That means more time enjoying the pistes and less time dealing with logistics.

As a personal winter sports travel consultant, I keep track of developments like this so I can help you choose a resort that genuinely suits the way you like to ski.

A quick expert note: La Thuile and La Rosière are part of Espace San Bernardo: separate from the Milky Way/Via Lattea ski area in Italy. Getting the right resort details matters when planning your trip.

News from Cervinia, Italy🏔️

A €200 million cable-car project is set to transform access to the high-altitude slopes, with the planned Cervino The One system taking skiers from Breuil-Cervinia to Plateau Rosa in around 17 minutes, a journey currently closer to 50 minutes.

Why does that matter?

Less time queuing and changing lifts means more time enjoying the skiing. It will also strengthen the connection between Cervinia and Zermatt, making the wider Matterhorn ski area even more accessible once the project is complete, currently targeted for the 2029/30 winter season.

For anyone planning a future ski trip, developments like this can make a real difference to where you stay, how easily you reach the slopes and which side of the mountain offers the best experience for your group.

Big news for skiers planning Chamonix this winter! 🎿

The Grands Montets rebuild has reached an important milestone, with a new 10-person gondola expected to open this December for the 2026/27 ski season.

After the disruption caused by the rebuild, this is welcome news for anyone who loves the high-mountain skiing and dramatic scenery that make Grands Montets so special. A modern gondola should mean smoother, more comfortable access and another reason to consider Argentière for your next ski holiday.

The challenge is knowing how the latest lift developments, opening plans, accommodation and travel options fit together. That’s where my personal knowledge and advice can make a real difference. I’ll help you understand what’s changing, choose the right resort and arrange a ski trip that suits your group, budget and ambitions.

If Chamonix is on your list for 2026/27, now is a good time to start planning, especially before the most popular dates and accommodation options disappear.

News from the Alps: Courmayeur is investing €40 million in new 10-person gondolas ahead of the 2026/27 ski season. 🎿

Why does that matter to skiers?

Lift upgrades can make a real difference to the quality of a ski day. The new gondolas are expected to provide:

• Faster, smoother access from the resort towards the slopes
• More comfortable journeys, especially during busy periods
• Improved efficiency at key points around the ski area
• Less time waiting and more time enjoying Courmayeur’s pistes

This is exactly the kind of development worth knowing about when choosing a resort. The skiing itself is only part of the experience, lift capacity, access, accommodation and overall layout can all affect how much you enjoy your time on the mountain.

With over 40 years’ experiencing ski holidays, I can help you look beyond the headline and work out whether Courmayeur is the right fit for your group, budget and skiing plans.

NEWS FOR SKIERS 🎿

Jet2.com has announced a new direct route from London Stansted to Innsbruck for the 2026/27 ski season.

Weekly Saturday flights will operate from 19 December 2026 to 10 April 2027, adding more than 6,000 ski seats and making the Austrian Alps easier to reach from Essex, Hertfordshire and the surrounding Home Counties.

Why does this matter?

Getting to the mountains can often mean limited flight choices, awkward connections or longer transfers. Innsbruck is a superb gateway to a wide range of Tyrolean ski resorts, giving you another convenient option when planning your winter escape.

The news ski and snowboard travellers have been waiting for is here: early booking for the 2026/27 ski season is now open! 🎿❄️

The problem with leaving it too late? The most sought-after resorts, accommodation and travel dates can disappear quickly and prices may rise as demand builds for the winter season.

With more than 40 years of skiing experience, I can help you look beyond the headline offers and choose the right resort, location and accommodation for the way you want to ski. Whether you’re planning a family half-term trip, a Christmas escape, a luxury week in the Alps or a budget-conscious break, booking early gives you far more choice.

The prize is simple, better availability, more suitable options and greater peace of mind while planning your 2026/27 winter adventure.

If you’re thinking about skiing or snowboarding next winter, now is the ideal time to start the conversation.

The problem with booking Christmas or February half-term isn’t simply finding a ski holiday… it’s finding one that actually works for your family. 🎿

Leave it too late and the most suitable options can quickly disappear:

🏔️ Family rooms may no longer be available
🎿 Ski schools might not have spaces at convenient times
🚐 Transfers could involve long waits or awkward schedules
📍 The best-located hotels may already be full

And the remaining choices may not match your children’s ages, skiing abilities, preferred dates or budget.

After more than 40 years of skiing, I know that peak-week planning is about far more than finding a resort with snow. It’s about matching the right accommodation, ski school, lift access, flights and transfers before availability becomes a problem.

Book early and you’ll have a much better chance of securing a holiday that feels easy, comfortable and enjoyable for everyone not simply settling for what’s left.

Planning Christmas or February half-term 2027? I’d be happy to help you explore the right options.

The cheapest-looking ski holiday isn’t always the best-value one. 🎿

Comparing a flight on one website, a hotel on another and a package price somewhere else can create more confusion than clarity.

You may not be comparing like-for-like and the costs that matter can easily be missed:

✈️ Baggage and ski equipment fees
🚐 Airport transfers and transfer times
🏨 Room type and board basis
🎿 Lift pass and equipment requirements
📍 The hotel’s genuine location and slope access

A holiday that looks cheaper at first can become more expensive, less convenient or simply unsuitable for your group.

With over 40 years of skiing experience, I know the right comparison is about more than the headline price. I look at the complete ski holiday matching the flights, accommodation, transfers, resort, facilities and inclusions so you can make a clear, informed decision.

The outcome? Fewer surprises, better value and a ski holiday that works for you from departure to return.

The same ski resort can feel like a completely different holiday depending on when you go. 🎿

A resort that’s ideal in February may not be the best choice for a December or April trip.

Snow conditions change. Lower slopes can become less reliable. Sunshine, temperatures, daylight hours, lift access and après-ski atmosphere can all be very different from one month to the next.

December might call for higher-altitude skiing and dependable snowmaking. January and February often offer classic winter conditions. April could be perfect for sunny lunches and softer spring snow, but only if the resort has the right elevation and terrain for your group.

After more than 40 years of skiing, I know that choosing a resort should start with your travel dates, not simply the resort’s reputation.

I’ll consider snow reliability, altitude, terrain, aspect, transfer times and the experience you want, then help you choose a resort that fits the month as well as the people travelling.

The result? Fewer assumptions, better-informed choices and a much greater chance of enjoying the holiday you had in mind.

The most expensive part of a ski holiday might not be the lift pass or hotel… it could be discovering your insurance doesn’t cover what you thought it did. 🎿

A standard travel insurance policy may not automatically include:

• Winter sports cover
• Off-piste skiing or snowboarding
• Mountain rescue and evacuation
• Lost, stolen or damaged equipment
• Ski hire and unused lift passes
• Medical treatment linked to an excluded activity

Even “off-piste” can mean different things depending on the policy. Some insurers may cover it only within marked boundaries, with a qualified guide, or when following specific safety conditions.

After more than 40 years of skiing, I know that checking the small print before travelling is every bit as important as choosing the right resort. Don’t rely on a policy simply saying “winter sports”, check exactly what is included, what is excluded and what excesses apply.

The outcome? Greater peace of mind, fewer surprises and a clearer understanding of what support you have if something goes wrong in the mountains.

Planning your next ski holiday? I can help you understand the options and make sure insurance is part of the conversation from the start.
