When people think of the Dominican Republic, they often picture white-sand beaches and all-inclusive resorts. While those are certainly part of the appeal, there's much more to discover.

The Maldives is a tropical island nation in the Indian Ocean, located southwest of Sri Lanka and India. It is made up of around 1,200 islands grouped into 26 atolls, with roughly 200 islands inhabited.

The capital city is Malé, which is one of the most densely populated cities in the world.

The country is the lowest-lying nation on Earth, with an average ground level of about 1.5 metres above sea level. This makes it particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels.

The Maldives has a tropical monsoon climate, with warm temperatures throughout the year, typically ranging between 25°C and 31°C.

Tourism is one of the main industries in the Maldives economy. Many resorts operate on individual islands, meaning one island often equals one resort.

The Maldives is known for its coral reefs, which are among the most biodiverse in the world. These reefs support thousands of marine species, including manta rays, reef sharks, and sea turtles.

The official language is Dhivehi, and the currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa, although US dollars are widely accepted in resorts.

One question I get asked quite a lot is:

"What's your favourite holiday destination?"

For me, it's an easy answer...

🇲🇽 Mexico

I've been lucky enough to visit some amazing places over the years, but Mexico keeps pulling me back.

It's not just the beautiful beaches and fantastic hotels. It's the atmosphere, the people, the food, the culture and the fact that every trip feels like a proper escape from everyday life.

I've actually just returned from another trip there, and it reminded me exactly why I love it so much.

As a travel consultant, I help people find the right destination for them, but if I had to choose somewhere to return to again and again, Mexico would be at the top of my list.

That bargain flight might look like a great deal... until you discover:

❌ A 6-hour airport layover
❌ Extra charges for luggage
❌ An airport that's miles from your destination
❌ Early morning departures that require an expensive hotel stay

Sometimes paying a little more can save you time, stress, and even money overall.

When planning a holiday, it's always worth looking at the full journey, not just the headline price.

This is one of the reasons I spend time looking at the whole package when helping clients plan their holidays. The cheapest option isn't always the best value.

🏎️ Formula 1 trips are proving really popular, with people already planning race weekends and turning them into city breaks.
