Behind the Scenes - Everyday Happenings of an Inverness Tour Guide
Now that the Information Centres in Scotland have all closed, everything is going online. This includes the contact I have with the Scottish Tourist Board (STB).
The STB communicate with newsletters to give encouragement and identify trends in tourism. This week's blog looks at a recent newsletter I received.
My favourite club, The Dull Men's Club, also gets a mention.

Behind the Scenes - Reflections of an Inverness Tour Guide.
Last week the Inverness Information Centre closed. This is a national plan by the Scottish Tourist Board to close every iCentre in Scotland by the end of the year. Everything is going online.
Although it can seem that everthing is closing in Inverness there are new small restuarants and coffee shops opening all the time.
This week a chatty post about closing the iCentre and the opening of a new cafe.

Vintage Shop Signs
As history nerd I get a buzz when I walk around the town and come across something that takes you back to an earlier era. Old shop signs are not unusual in Inverness and fortunately many people see them as adding value to our townscape.
See https://www.inversneckie.co.uk/blog.html to see the buzz I got this week.

Behind the Scenes - Everyday happenings of a Tour Guide
I hear that the sending of Postcards are making a comeback.
In the 1980s I would often receive postcards from the those I had taken on my walks when they returned home.
Here is that story;

Behind the Scenes - Everyday happenings of a Tour Guide
When I started the walking tours in the 1980s visitors from the USA rarely discussed politics. They were more in wonderment of out National Health Service.
Today politics is a frequent topic of conversation and recently a couple from the USA, who weren't on my tour, approached me to apologise for the state of their nation. One lady from Texas said "Half the country is crazy, we are not are not crazy".
A few weeks ago a gentleman from California mentioned to me that in these troubled times he sought to create 'an oasis' around his family and community. This reminded me of a poster of a poem I bought back in the early 70s.

Behind the Scenes - Everyday happenings of a Tour Guide
This September I have been making more effort to include women in my stories. Isobel Harriet Anderson (1840-1904) was a local author who wrote about Inverness as it was during her lifetime. Reading one of Isobel's books is like getting into a warm bath. They are very genteel and tell of local people, afternoon teas and everyone being respectful and kind. This is a wee story about one of her books.

This week - Behind the Scenes of an Inverness Tour Guide.
Will AI take over and tour guides disappear? Maybe.
On a recent Scottish Tourist Board training I was told me to use AI.
So I did. Click below for the result.

This week - Behind the Scenes of an Inverness Tour Guide - William McGonagall, Scottish Poet who was very fond of Inverness. Often mocked as one of the World's Worst Poets. It is for you to decide.
