9 years really does fly when you love what you do ❤️

Nine years ago, I took a huge leap and became a Travel Counsellor.

I’d already spent many years working in travel, but becoming self-employed was a completely different adventure. I had no idea where it would take me — I just knew I wanted to build a business where I could do what I love, look after my customers properly and create incredible holidays.

Fast forward 9 years and I can genuinely say taking that leap was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I’ve planned thousands of holidays, travelled to some incredible places, built a business I’m incredibly proud of and, last year, achieved something that had been a huge goal of mine — becoming a Gold Travel Counsellor

Of course, it hasn’t all been glamorous! There have been late nights, cancelled flights, schedule changes, a pandemic and plenty of “Gemma, HELP!” messages along the way 😂

But there have also been honeymoons, family adventures, anniversaries, bucket-list trips and so many amazing memories that I’ve been lucky enough to help create.

And none of it would be possible without my wonderful customers. Every booking, recommendation, share and “I know someone who can help with your holiday” has helped me build the business I have today.

Sometimes, things don't go to plan... but that doesn't mean the holiday has to be cancelled.

When my clients' Rhine River cruise was cancelled due to exceptionally low water levels, it would have been easy to think their long-awaited holiday – and their 50th wedding anniversary celebration – was over.

Instead, I worked tirelessly to find an alternative that would still make their milestone trip feel special.

The result? A beautiful river cruise along Portugal's stunning Douro Valley. 🍇🚢

From all the photos and messages they've sent, it looks like they had the most wonderful time celebrating 50 years of marriage in one of Europe's most breathtaking wine regions.

This is exactly why I love what I do. Travel doesn't always go to plan, but finding solutions and helping my clients still create unforgettable memories is what it's all about.

This summer has been a hot one... and Europe's rivers have definitely felt it. 🌞🚢

Exceptionally low water levels across parts of Europe have affected a number of river cruises, particularly on the Rhine.

This summer, I had clients due to sail the Rhine, but just a few days before departure, they were told the low water levels meant their original itinerary could no longer operate.

The good news? They weren't left wondering what to do.

The cruise line gave them a choice:
✅ Travel on a revised itinerary.
✅ Cancel and receive a full refund.

Having those options only days before travelling made a huge difference and meant they could choose what was right for them, rather than feeling stuck with a holiday they hadn't planned.

Travel doesn't always go exactly as expected. Weather, strikes and operational changes can happen, whether you're travelling independently or as part of a package.
The difference is knowing your options and having someone there to help you navigate them.

We knew we wanted to go to Brazil for its beautiful scenery and the chance to experience nature first-hand, but needed help turning that dream into reality. After an initial FaceTime call where Gemma Pauley took the time to understand our likes, dislikes, hopes and wishes, as well as our budget, she created a detailed, personalised itinerary covering flights, transfers, hotels, excursions and private guides across several locations in Brazil. Gemma talked us through everything, made sure we were happy, and made a couple of thoughtful tweaks to finesse the trip. We were reassured to have emergency contacts in Brazil and the UK, thankfully never needed. The guides in Brazil also deserve a mention for their warmth, friendliness and expertise. They were lovely people, highly knowledgeable and attentive throughout, ensuring we were happy and getting the most out of everything they had to share, very much in keeping with Gemma’s thoughtful approach. Kefalonia - I booked a beautiful villa in the wrong location!!!

For us it was just a little remote so we have to drive everywhere and there is no such thing as a short drive in Greece!

Would I return - definitely just consider the location more carefully

Beautiful beaches, crystal-clear water, amazing food, stunning sunsets and memories we'll never forget. It's easy to see why so many people return to this beautiful island.

From the breathtaking views at Myrtos Beach and exploring the beautiful village of Assos, to relaxing in Katelios, spending evenings in Fiskardo, and eating more tzatziki than I care to admit... every day was something special.

A truly special island, with so much to see and do. ✨
