I’ll be out of the office for a couple of days this week as I head to the iconic Silverstone motor racing circuit for the annual ATAS Conference.

ATAS stands for the Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers: essentially a big club of tour operators and travel specialists who live and breathe escorted tours, small‑group adventures and touring holidays for people who love the journey just as much as the destination.

Across the two days at Silverstone there will be conference sessions, a trade fair and plenty of catch ups with my touring and adventure partners.

I will be finding out about updates and changes, hearing about new itineraries and coming home armed with fresh ideas, insider tips and even more incredible journeys to share with you.

And the adventure does not stop there: I will then be heading off with one of our fabulous tour partners on a trip through Vietnam and Cambodia, two new countries to add to my repertoire.

Thank you so much to everyone who took part in my 2026 Summer Photo Competition. Voting has now closed and I’m delighted to share the results!

🥇 1st place: Congratulations to Andrea Barker for her stunning black-and-white shot of her gorgeous family having fun on the beach in Pollensa, Mallorca this summer.

🥈 2nd place: In second place, we have a magnificent (and possibly yawning!) lioness in the Masai Mara, captured by Sam Kidston while on his honeymoon in August.

🥉 3rd place: Third place goes to Anty Cooky for his powerful image of a WW2 bunker in Zagreb, Croatia – clearly a very moving tour while travelling after a wedding in Osijek in August.

🌟 Runner up: Our runner up is the wonderfully detailed praying mantis in Montenegro, submitted by Shelly Crake.

Thank you so much to everyone who entered my 2026 summer photo competition!
I’ve had some fantastic entries: some scenic, some arty, some that made me laugh out loud, and others so beautiful I had to double check they were real!

I’ve created a shortlist of 15 finalists, shown below in no particular order. Please share and tag if you’d like others to see and support your favourites.

To vote, simply 'like' for 1 vote or 'love' for 3 votes on each INDIVIDUAL picture on Facebook.
The image with the most votes by 5 pm on Friday will win the prize. (any other emoji's will not count) You can vote for as many as you like, but if you 'like' them all it rather cancels out your vote!

Voting will be counted on Facebook only, as it isn’t really possible to track likes accurately on Instagram (unless I upload each image as a separate post), so apologies to those who only use Insta and not Facebook.

I do this one thing before every flight

As soon as I put my suitcase on the check-in belt… I take a photo of it.

Not because I’m obsessed with my luggage. (Although we’ve been through a lot together.)

I do it for two reasons.

Firstly, if the airline loses your bag, they’ll ask you to describe it. The make, the colour, the size, any distinguishing features. In that moment, your brain will suddenly forget everything you thought you knew about your own suitcase!

Having a photo makes the whole process so much easier.

Secondly, if your suitcase comes off the carousel looking like it’s gone ten rounds with a forklift, you’ve got proof it was in good condition when you handed it over at check-in.

It’s one of those tiny travel habits that you hope you’ll never need… but if you do, you’ll be so glad you took those two seconds.

Okay, I know… it’s still August. 🌞
But those of us who understand the importance of planning ahead for snow, mountains and après-ski know that ski season is actually VERY much on the horizon. 😉

And more importantly…

HAVE YOU BOOKED YOUR SKI HOLIDAY YET?! 👀

Because there are only so many weeks until we’re swapping flip-flops for ski boots, sun loungers for chairlifts and cocktails for… well, actually, cocktails can stay. 🍹😂
