Right. Sunday thought.

She rang on a Thursday evening. Said they'd been coming every June since we first opened the shepherd huts, and she just wanted to say thank you.

Not for the booking. For the fact that her husband switched off for the first time in three years.

She didn't know how to explain it. She said he sat by the fire for two hours and didn't look at his phone once. Just watched the barn owl come and go over the meadow.

'He's not a man who sits,' she said. 'But apparently he is now.'

That is what this place does. Quietly. Without making a fuss about it.

We have the spot.

Right. Sunday.

I had a message from someone last week. They'd stayed here three summers ago. Family of four, two kids who were at the age of not agreeing on anything, dog who'd decided fences were optional.

She said: 'We still talk about that weekend. We still talk about it.'

I don't know what to do with that except say: yes. That's the thing about this place. It doesn't make much fuss. It just happens to be where your people all stopped for a bit. And somehow that weekend becomes the one they keep coming back to in conversation, years later.

If you've got a Sunday free, come find out what I mean.

We have the spot.

Right. Sunday morning.

A couple who stayed here three years ago have come back every June since. I asked what they come back for. The woman thought about it and said it was the only time her husband actually switched off.

Not the beach. Not the wildlife. Him.

He was standing next to her holding a coffee, looking at the saltmarsh. He didn't say anything. Just nodded.

I think that's what this place is for, actually. Not the walks or the birds or the things I write in captions. It's for remembering that he — or she — is still in there underneath it all.

We have the spot.

Right. Something happened last week that I wanted to share.

A guest sent me a message. She'd been here last September with her husband and their old Labrador. She said they still talk about that weekend. The dog's gone now. The walks, the saltmarsh at sunrise, the morning they got up before light and walked to the sea before anyone else was about.

That's what I want to give people here. Not a room. Not a pitch. That morning.

The thing that sits there years later. The smell of the salt. The dog going absolutely nuts about something only it could see.

We have the spot.

Right. Saturday morning thought.

There is a specific feeling you get when the fire's going in the pit, the children have given up and gone to bed, and it's just you and whoever you came with. Glass of something. The woodland going quiet around you. No signal worth mentioning. Nobody needing anything.

We have shepherd huts. We have fire pits. We have a woodland in North Norfolk, UK that goes very quiet after eight o'clock.

This is the version of summer that doesn't photograph well because you're too busy being in it.

Book your stay.

Right. The shepherd hut.

Not the photos of it. The bit where you actually arrive. You duck through the door, put your bag down, and stand there looking at a field and a sky with nothing in it except a buzzard and a lot of weather.

No check-in queue. No keycard. No lift music. Just a kettle, a wood burner, and the barn owl that hunts over the meadow at dusk.

I have watched that barn owl for entire evenings. I have completely lost track of what I was supposed to be doing.

That is, I think, the point.

Right then. Another one.

We've just announced the shepherd's hut winner and I'm already buzzing about it. So much so, I thought: let's do another one straight away.

This time: two nights in our woodland yurt near Holt. Woodburner, covered deck, private lake, campfire, and a view of the trees that'll genuinely reset your brain.

To enter: comment below and tell me what the very first thing you'd do when you arrived would be. That's it.

Winner drawn Monday 15 June at midday. Dogs obviously welcome.

Stay over, make it a miniBreak.

Right. It is Friday.

I don't want to pressure anyone. That would be wrong of me. But it is also the first proper weekend of June without school holidays attached to it, and the coast is absolutely perfect right now.

Dogs back on Holme beach. Sea warm enough that only an idiot would go in. (I went in. It was fine.)

Long evenings — not dark until nearly half nine. No queues. No fuss. Just the sea doing its thing and North Norfolk, UK doing what it does when nobody's demanding anything from it.

There are pitches and shepherd huts available for this weekend. I have just checked.

Your base for all of it.
