Drop into Leek Butter Market and get hands-on with the Staffordshire Moorlands’ textile heritage as part of Heritage Open Days!

The Friends of the Nicholson will be bringing local history to life with original pieces from the Nicholson Institute Museum and Art Gallery’s collection, stories from the textile industries of Leek, Cheadle and Tean, and the chance to have a go at traditional weaving techniques yourself.

It’s free, family-friendly and there’s no need to book, so just pop in and have a go! 💛

YHA’s Festival of Walking is back! A month-long invitation to get outside, explore more and connect with others along the way. From first-time wanders to shared adventures, this is walking your way.

Each autumn, our hostels across England and Wales come alive with a packed programme of free guided social walks. Whether you’re building confidence, boosting your wellbeing or simply looking for fresh air and great company, the Festival of Walking is your chance to step outside and feel good doing it.

Our local YHA Ilam Hall is running several walks supported by local organisations, such as, Sheffield Environmental Movement and Outdoor Adventure Girls, plus the National Trust.

🥾 Ever wondered what it takes to create a 155-mile walking route through the Peak District?

Join local adventurer Ken Reece on Tuesday 22 September as he shares the story behind the Peak Way – a long-distance walking route created during lockdown that takes in some of the most spectacular landscapes, heritage and hidden gems across the Peak District.

From windswept moors and dramatic ridges to peaceful valleys, villages and historic landmarks, Ken will talk about how an idea became an established walking route enjoyed by hikers from across the UK and overseas. 🌄
