🚨 TRAVELLING TO EUROPE? AN IMPORTANT EES UPDATE 🇪🇺

If you’re heading to the Schengen Area after 6 September 2026, there’s an important change to be aware of.

The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) is already fully operational. It digitally records the entry and exit of eligible non-EU travellers, replacing the traditional passport-stamping process.

📅 So what changes after 6 September?

Until now, border authorities have had temporary flexibility to pause biometric registration during exceptionally busy periods to help manage queues.

That flexibility is due to end on 6 September, meaning travellers could see longer queues at some busy European airports and border crossings if full biometric processing is required.

🛂 If EES applies to you, your first registration can involve:

📸 A facial image
👆 Fingerprints
🛂 Passport details
📍 Digital recording of your entry/exit

You do not need to apply for EES in advance and there is no fee.

⏰ My advice?
Allow extra time for border control and avoid tight connections where possible — particularly if you’re travelling through a busy airport.

🚢 Cruisers: EES requirements can depend on where your cruise starts and finishes. If you embark and return to the UK, you may normally be exempt from EES checks during your cruise, even when visiting Schengen destinations.

⚠️ EES is not a visa and is separate from ETIAS.

Always check the latest official guidance before travelling.
