Yesterday I conducted my first ever ‘epic’ walking and public transport tour for two great guys from Norway. Starting from Hard Days Night hotel and a bus journey from city centre to the Penny Lane area, showing them all the important places then headed up to Woolton on another bus for an in-depth tour of all the places in the Village including a visit inside St Peter’s Church Hall and a curated explanation of where John was first introduced to Paul. We then had lunch with Colin Hanton (Original drummer with Quarrymen) and Julia Baird (John Lennon’s sister) before heading to Mendips / Vale Road area. Following in the footsteps of John & Paul we then retraced John’s journey to Paul’s home and then headed towards South Parkway for a bar of chocolate…if you know, you know. Eight miles walked and over seven hours later, we decided to take the 86 bus back to town, the route that the lads would have taken to college, where Paul met George and where John was introduced to George by Paul. I call the 86 bus the most important bus in the history of rock n roll.
It was certainly a long and winding tour that i thoroughly enjoyed doing, the weather was perfect and lots of stories, anecdotes, facts and questions shared along the way. If anyone would like to do this same tour in the future, please give me a shout which finishes with a pretty cool ‘twist’
After a good rest overnight, I’m ready to go again today for three tours on the Magical Mystery Tour.
