Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner
July 22 at 2:55 PM ·

Last week I joined local police officers, council representatives, and community partners for a walkabout in the heart of L8.
These walkabouts are a valuable opportunity for me to hear directly from residents, understand the issues that matter most, and see first-hand the work being done to keep our neighbourhoods safe.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with us and to all the partners who joined me. By working together, we can build safer, stronger communities across Merseyside

NATIONAL GARDENING SCHEME -
Open Day Event - PAL "Wellness Garden"

On Sunday 19th June 2025, from 13.00 pm to 17.00 pm, the PAL Multicultural Centre, in collaboration with its partner Cohiba Productions, welcomed visitors for the second year running to its very own flower filled ‘PAL Wellness Garden’, as part of the National Gardening Schemes - Canning Georgina Quarter group of gardens.

Each year the event helps raise funds for the awareness of the physical and mental health benefits of the garden and gardening for everyone.

Visitors gain inspiration for their own open spaces, whilst experiencing the delights of enjoying Pakistani ‘Kashmiri’ Tea and home-made food on the lawn.

Background:

The National Garden Scheme celebrates all that’s good about gardens and encourages everyone to embrace the positivity of green spaces as part of their annual Gardens and Health Week that runs from 13 -21 May.

It also opens more than 3000 private gardens to the public. Most of the participating gardens charge a small visitor entry fee (usually between £4 - £6). In previous years, the fees meant the scheme was able to donate over £3 million to some of the UK’s best-known nursing and health charities. This was part of the £67 million the scheme has donated since 1927.

Visiting a National Garden Scheme Garden does so much more than raise money for charity. The link between gardens and our health has never been more relevant and the beneficial effects of spending time in the garden, surrounded by the beauty of nature trigger natural endorphins that make us feel happy. This is supported by scientific studies that show spending time in a garden can reduce blood pressure.

Make sure to add this date to your diary and come join us again next year for this well worthy annual event.
