What an unforgettable few days. 🏔️

We’ve just returned from supporting an incredible National Three Peaks Challenge, helping 24 amazing people take on Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa while raising money for a fantastic cause.

The biggest surprise? Meeting The Princess of Wales on Ben Nevis. She stopped to chat with the group, shared flapjacks and listened to their fundraising story. A moment nobody will ever forget.

The challenge wasn’t just about climbing mountains. It was about teamwork, determination, new friendships and proving what can be achieved when everyone pulls together.

Watching the group reach the final summit was incredibly special.

The AXA Training Centre in Kirkby, Liverpool, is where Liverpool FC's first team trains. This is where the sessions happen, where the tactics are worked on, where the players you see on a Saturday afternoon are preparing, day in and day out.

You could walk past it without thinking twice if you did not know what it was.

A street sign. Blue background, white letters. Penny Lane, Liverpool 18.

But that street sign, on the corner of Penny Lane and Smithdown Place in the Mossley Hill area of Liverpool, England, is one of the most recognised addresses in the world. Because of four lads from Liverpool who wrote a song about it in 1967, and because that song became one of the defining pieces of music of the twentieth century.

Paul McCartney grew up nearby. John Lennon lived in Allerton, just up the road. They used to get the bus into town from here. The barber's shop, the banker, the fireman. The details in the song are real. The places existed. Some of them still do.

There is a real place in Liverpool called Strawberry Field. And if you grew up listening to The Beatles, standing in front of those famous red gates does something to you that is quite hard to explain.

John Lennon played in the gardens of Strawberry Field as a child. He could see it from his aunt Mimi's house in Menlove Avenue. The song that carries its name became one of the most recognisable pieces of music ever recorded. And the gates, on Beaconsfield Road in Woolton, Liverpool, are still there.

These days Strawberry Field is a visitor experience and social enterprise, and it is one of the stops we include on our Beatles tours of Liverpool, England, United Kingdom. Most visitors assume the song is just a song. When they see the place, understand the geography, and hear the story of a young John Lennon in this part of south Liverpool, the song becomes something different. Personal. Real.

Every few weeks, someone asks me the same question. "What is the one thing I absolutely have to do in Liverpool?"

The honest answer is: it depends who you are. But if you love The Beatles, the answer is simple. You need to spend a proper day doing the Beatles experience in Liverpool, England, and you need someone local to show you around.
