Finland has more saunas than cars.

Around two million saunas for a population of 5.6 million — and that tells you something about how Finland actually works.

But Finland is much more than its famous sauna culture.

There are forests and lakes stretching across the country, quiet wooden mökkis beside the water, Helsinki’s understated design culture and the vast wilderness of Lapland.

In the north, reindeer, Sámi culture, Arctic darkness and the northern lights shape everyday life. In summer, the midnight sun turns the equation completely around.

And then there is the food: rye bread, Karelian pastries, smoked fish, wild berries and mushrooms — a cuisine shaped by the forests and lakes.

Finland is a country where nature isn't something you simply visit. It is part of how people live.

The Altiplano is not just somewhere you travel through.

At around 3,750 metres above sea level, this enormous high plain stretches across Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Argentina — a landscape so vast that you can drive for an entire day without really descending.

Most travellers experience only a fraction of it. A night at altitude, a jeep across the salt, a photograph — and then they leave.

But the Altiplano demands something different.

Here, your body sets the terms. The thin air, immense distances and intense light are part of the experience, while volcanoes rise from a landscape that can look almost unreal.

Only Tibet has a larger plateau of this kind. But the Altiplano has its own character: ancient settlements, active volcanoes and a scale that is difficult to understand until you are standing in it.

Some caves are places you explore.

Son Doong feels like a world of its own.

Deep inside Vietnam's Phong Nha-Ke Bang, the world's largest known cave is so enormous that it can create its own weather. Where parts of the ceiling have collapsed, sunlight reaches the floor, rainforest grows underground and clouds can form inside the mountain.

The scale is almost impossible to understand from photographs. The main passage stretches for more than five kilometres, with sections reaching around 200 metres high.

And perhaps most remarkable of all, access remains deliberately limited. Visiting Son Doong means a five-day expedition, a permit and a level of planning that keeps this extraordinary underground world protected.

Stockholm is only half the story.
