Helping the heroes at Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team 💚

The Pathways Fund has donated £5,000 towards a new training wall at the headquarters of Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team.

Formed in 1965 to assist those frequently ‘coming-a-cropper’ on the popular Lyke Wake Walk, the volunteer team now has around 50 members including 40 Search & Rescue volunteers. It responds to approximately 60 incidents a year across the North York Moors, helping keep walkers safe in the countryside surrounding Larpool Hall, our HF Country House in Whitby.

Completed in June, the new wall provides a safe, weatherproof facility where volunteers can practise specialist rope and stretcher rescues more frequently.

Before and After! 🥾💚

We're delighted to have contributed £13,000 towards the rebuilding of a vital bridge on the Fairies' Road, a much-loved walking route near Strontian in the Scottish Highlands.

When the previous crossing became unusable, walkers were left without safe access to part of this beautiful circular route. Thanks to support from HF Holidays' Pathways Fund and the dedication of local partners, a brand-new bridge is now in place, reconnecting people with the spectacular River Strontian and Ariundle Nature Reserve.

As HF Leader Pete Thomasson explains, seeing the impact of the lost crossing first-hand inspired him to seek support through the Fund, helping turn a community challenge into a lasting solution.

Here's to many more years of safe and enjoyable walking adventures.

"Our family was blown away by the beauty of the Tatra Mountains."

We've had some fantastic feedback sent in from guests on our recent trip, Trek the Polish Tatra Mountains. Not only does the weather look glorious, but dramatic peaks and sparkling lakes look stunning.

What made the trip truly special wasn't just the scenery though. Guests said the knowledge and passion of local guides Maciej and Beata, the warm atmosphere that quickly turned strangers into friends, and the chance to discover the region through the eyes of local guides were their favourite bits.

As two of our guests said, "Spending time with strangers who quickly became interesting company was as much a highlight of the holiday as the wonderful scenery."

We were thrilled to see St Cuthbert's Way named in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2027.

From the Scottish Borders to the shores of Holy Island, St Cuthbert’s Way brings together wide-open landscapes, centuries of history and a memorable finish. It is one of the UK’s Great Trails as well as a historic pilgrimage route and very deserving of its place on Lonely Planet's list! We look back at a special trip HF Walk Leader Tom did with artist Paul Janssens on our blog.

They gave themselves five days to cover the 100 km route from Melrose to Lindisfarne, leaving time to explore its abbeys, villages and viewpoints.

🌿 Supporting local communities through our Pathways Fund 🌿

We're delighted to have supported a footpath restoration at Kirkby Malham Church, a much-loved local landmark just a short distance from our Yorkshire Dales Country House, Newfield Hall.

Before the work began, we met Rev Sue and local contractor David to learn about plans to restore the churchyard paths. Following completion, our Assistant House Manager Jake returned to see the results, and the difference is clear. Thanks to a grant of almost £3,500, this much-loved spot is now safer and more accessible for all.

The church also offers a warm welcome to HF Holidays members and guests, making this support a meaningful way to give back to a community that has long supported our walkers.

A huge thank you to our Field Advisor, Linda, for recommending the project. 💚
