Romanticising the dark half of the year 🕯️

These are the stays made for it - crisp morning walks on crunchy frosted paths, epic winter landscapes and crackling wood burners to thaw out beside with a pot of tea and nowhere else to be 💭

Ask AI for a cosy autumn weekend and it’ll send you wherever it sent everyone else last October.

It’s never once stood in a kitchen dripping from a wet walk while an owner handed over the kindling and told you which pub *actually* does the best Sunday roast. We have. That’s the difference.

So that’s what this is. An autumn edit from our small, travel-obsessed team: where we’re going as the nights draw in, and the places we already can’t wait to get back to.

“These East Sussex cabins will always have a place in my heart, because Cabin X was actually the very first Kip hideaway I ever got to stay in. I remember arriving and just thinking it was exactly the sort of place we wanted Kip to be about - this tiny, rustic cabin hidden away by a pond with huge windows looking out into the trees.

Since then, Will and his childhood friend Harry have built some seriously incredible new cabins around the farm and I’m DESPERATE to go back this autumn. Bather’s Cabin is top of my list - mostly for its secret woodland roof terrace under a huge oak tree, with a sauna, hot tub, cold plunge and outdoor bath”

- Sarah, Co-founder

“My fantasy autumn weekend: a gang of girlfriends at Redford Farm near Ludlow, woodburners lit, a lot of w**e open, barely leaving the Farmhouse. I’d get one of their local chefs in for a feast on the Saturday and make full use of the wood-fired sauna. A big house party with proper food is exactly what autumn’s for.”

- Liz, Co-founder

“We’ve just been to this gorgeous cabin near Cambridge and it completely blew me away. It sits beside a wildflower meadow, which at this time of year is turning the most beautiful autumn colours. It’s that perfect time of year when you want a cosy jumper but can still sit outside, and their terrace is exactly where I’d want to be with a glass of w**e as the sun goes down.”

- Jessy, PR

“I’d take the family to this Isle of Wight cottage for a proper adventure - half the fun is the ferry over before you’ve even arrived. From the outside this cottage gives nothing away, then you step into a doll’s house of candy stripes, raspberry pinks and gorgeous florals, which I just know

There are plenty of countryside cabins where you wake up to birdsong. Far fewer where brunch and a proper flat white is just a short wander from your door.

That’s Fields Farm: 3 black A-frame cabins set among rows of Christmas trees and wildflower meadow, with Rise + Grind, the farm’s own brunch spot, just along the path.

The triangular windows pull in the whole sky, and inside it’s all pared-back timber and chalky neutrals.

And the best part? You can do the whole weekend without the car. A swim in the lake 5 minutes away, bikes to borrow for cycling the lanes, an evening in the wood-fired hot tub as the sun drops behind the fields.

Camera roll from an autumn weekend back at this gorgeous Devon hideaway - one of the very first we fell for, many years ago now, and still an absolute favourite for cosy season: woodburner going, scrabble all afternoon, the light low and golden over the Devon hills.

It’s the house where Tarka the Otter was written, and the author’s old hut still sits out in the garden - leather chair, scratched ’78s, a gramophone you can actually wind up. Take a book out, lose the afternoon. Heaven.

In farming, a fallow field is one that’s been given the year off. Ellie and Mat liked the idea so much they named the whole place after it.

4 acres of meadow, hill and woodland near Frome, wrapped around an old pub, growing not much beyond ox-eye daisies. The land does very little on purpose, and you’re encouraged to follow its lead. Wake to birdsong, read the books you keep meaning to, walk over to the Talbot at Mells for a pint and taxi home, back to a sky full of stars.

Most woodland cabins come with the trees already grown. But here it’s the other way round - 10,000 saplings went into old Argyll farm fields this spring, and you get to watch the forest begin.

These 2 hand-crafted cabins sit in the middle of it, each built entirely from the tree it’s named for: Larch and Douglas Fir, from the frame to the floors to the bed you sleep in. Some of that timber stood less than a mile away until a storm brought it down in 2024.

Window seats look straight out into the landscape, made for watching the young trees sway, the hills shift with the changing light, and catching glimpses of birds, bats, and other wildlife.

Bonus points: you can walk to the pub, and you don’t even need a car to get here.
