And we are off! 🎉🚀

Heritage Open Days 2026 has officially started across the Harborough district! From today until Sunday 20 September, doors are opening across our towns and villages to celebrate local history, culture and community. 🏛️✨

Here is what you can dive straight into this opening weekend:

🌊 The Symington Building (Market Harborough): Explore the 'Making Waves and Corset Creations' exhibition and drop in to design your own vintage swimwear. 🩱

🏡 Cotesbach Estate: Uncover 'Everyday Histories' with guided estate tours, traditional makers displays and family archive advice. 📜

🏛️ The Wycliffe Rooms (Lutterworth): Head over for Family Fun Days and take a look inside the historic lodge room. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

⚓ Foxton Canal: Discover historic waterways with guided walks around the Incline Plane. 🚤

Every event is free to attend. Grab your family and friends, get exploring, and discover the stories right on our doorstep! 🌳🎒

Making waves in Market Harborough tomorrow! 🌊✨

Did you know that alongside world famous corsets, Market Harborough's Symington & Co. were global trailblazers in swimwear design too?
Opening tomorrow for Heritage Open Days, head down to The Symington Building to discover "Making Waves: Symington's Swimwear Design Legacy".

Here is what you can look forward to:
* Explore rare swimwear from the archive and discover how local design shaped 20th century beachwear fashion
* See iconic Liberty bodices and retro fashion prints up close
* Get hands on with fun family activities, including colouring and paper origami crafts

The exhibition runs from tomorrow through to Saturday 19th September, and like all Heritage Open Days events, it is completely free to visit. A big thank you to for bringing this to life!

Looking to uncover local village history? 🏡

Join the Cotesbach Educational Trust for 'Everyday Histories' on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th September. Step into the stories of Cotesbach and discover how this village reflects centuries of change!

🚶‍♀️ Take a free guided tour of the Cotesbach Estate at 11am or 1:30pm. The tour starts at The Glasshouse and visits the Stable Yard, Cotesbach Hall gardens and the Schoolhouse.

🛠️ Explore the interactive 'Butcher, Baker, Blacksmith and Makers' display. This reveals the enduring local skills that have connected the community for generations.

📜 Visit the old Schoolhouse to explore your own family history. Experienced archive volunteers will be on hand to help you discover your roots.

Tours are free but must be booked in advance. All other activities are open to everyone from 10:30am to 3:30pm.
