The nights are finally dark enough again, and the northern lights are back. 🌌

After a summer of nonstop daylight, Iceland's skies are properly dark by evening again, which means the aurora's visible for the first time since spring. Early season sightings can be some of the best too with clear autumn nights offering less cloud than deep winter.

Not everyone wants a Christmas at home this year, some people would rather be out chasing the northern lights instead. ❄️

We run a small escorted tour that takes you into the Icelandic countryside for Christmas itself, proper snowy landscapes, traditional Icelandic Christmas food, and a good shot at the lights overhead most nights. It's a completely different way to spend the 25th.

After a busy summer, sometimes you just want to float in warm water and stare at the ocean. 🌊

Sky Lagoon sits right on the coast just outside Reykjavík, geothermal water with an infinity edge that makes it look like it runs straight into the sea. There's a seven-step ritual built in too, sauna, cold plunge, steam, body scrub, the works.

Most whale watching trips in Iceland are humpbacks and minkes but from Ólafsvík, on the Snæfellsnes coast, you get a real shot at orcas. 🐋

They follow the herring in close to shore here, so pods can turn up right off the boat, hunting as a group, breaching, the whole thing. It's a different experience from the usual whale watching further round the coast.

On 12th August, a rare total solar eclipse sweeps across the Snæfellsnes peninsula, Reykjavík and the Reykjanes peninsula, with totality arriving in the early evening. It won't pass over Iceland again for decades, and we honestly cannot wait to see it for ourselves. 🌗
