Harvest begins. The foragers rolled into the fields on 1st September and theyโ€™ll be working through every field on the farm until the end of the month.

Dilham is a working farm first, and this is the busiest month of its year. Itโ€™s all maize here, so for the next few weeks the landscape around the pods changes shape almost daily, with the trailers running late into the evening to get it all in.

Tomorrow the Canal Festival lands on our doorstep, quite literally. Itโ€™s all happening on the canoe field here at Dilham Hall. Boats, stalls, music and the best of the Broads. Come down, find us, say hello.

Meet Broad Fen ๐ŸŒพ

Tucked away on the edge of the meadow with nothing but wildflowers, woodland and birdsong for company, Broad Fen is your own private corner of the Norfolk countryside.

A cosy double bed, your own private hot tub, and a welcome hamper waiting for you on arrival. Unpack, pour yourself a drink and let the world slow down.

Just a short stroll from the North Walsham & Dilham Canal, with paddleboarding, walks and wildlife right on your doorstep.

๐ŸŒ’ Where are you watching it from?

On Wednesday the moon covers around 90% of the sun. It's the best eclipse Norfolk has seen since 1999, it peaks at 7.11pm, and it's over by just after eight. Which is, conveniently, hot tub o'clock.

Two night stays are available across the board. Arrive and do very little. Watch the light go strange over the Broads with a cold glass in hand and the water doing the hard work.

Then stay put. The Perseids peak the same night and there's no moon to spoil them. Big Norfolk sky, no light pollution, no drive home. โœจ

Never look directly at the sun without certified eclipse glasses, even at 90% covered.

200 years of the North Walsham and Dilham Canal ๐Ÿšค

In 1826 the canal opened along the River Ant valley, dug entirely by hand by 100 bankers from Bedford. It carried wheat, flour, coal and bone meal down to Great Yarmouth and beyond, until the railways came and the last trading wherry, Ella, made her final journey in 1937.

Two centuries on, the North Walsham and Dilham Canal Trust are throwing it a party.

The 200th Anniversary Canal Festival, organised by and the Trust, takes place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August at Canalside Meadow, Dilham, and we are proud to be hosting it here on the grounds at Dilham Hall Retreats.

Boat and wherry trips ๐Ÿ›ถ kayaks, canoes and SUP tasters ๐ŸŽถ live music and dancing ๐Ÿบ licensed bar โ˜•๏ธ food, coffee and ice cream ๐Ÿชต wood working, willow weaving and rural crafts, plus the Trust's Fun Boaty Dog Show on the Saturday ๐Ÿ•

Sat 10 to 6pm, Sun 10 to 4pm. Oak Road, Dilham, NR28 9PW. Parking on site, donations welcome.

Come and celebrate a proper piece of Norfolk history with the Trust โœจ

Tonnage Bridge. ๐ŸŒฟ

Named after the crossing on the North Walsham and Dilham Canal, and built for the kind of stay where nobody looks at the time. Water, big Norfolk skies, and a quiet you can hear. ๐ŸŒค๏ธ

Come for a long weekend and leave having done very little. That is rather the point. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Swallowtail is free this weekend ๐Ÿฆ‹

Wood fired hot tub steaming away, BBQ and fire pit ready to go, a bottle of something cold and the whole of the Norfolk countryside going quiet around you. Robes on, phones down, nothing to be anywhere for.

We have the end of this week and the weekend still open, so if you have been meaning to book that couple of nights away, this is your sign.

Link in bio to book, or drop us a message and we will sort it.

Sixty years of Worstead Festival, and it never gets old ๐Ÿ

Luke's late great uncle Gavin was one of the people behind the very first one back in 1966, when the whole village pulled together to raise money to save St Mary's Church โ›ช Six decades on it's still run entirely by volunteers, still giving tens of thousands back to local causes every year, and still one of the best weekends in the Norfolk calendar.

Wild Woods honey from Witton Bees ๐Ÿฏ Home Farm Gin ๐Ÿธ freshly squeezed lemonade in the sunshine ๐Ÿ‹ live music on Mill Hill ๐ŸŽถ and more artisan stalls than you can get round in a day.

All of it a few minutes from the gate at Dilham Hall.

This is what we mean when we say there's plenty on your doorstep. Stay with us and you're right in the middle of it โœจ
