Hot summer in Montenegro means one thing if you’re in the lowlands – lots of swimming!

With temperatures in the high 30s all last week ☀️, we made sure our Lake Skadar guests had plenty of opportunities to cool off – in rushing rivers, waterfalls, rock pools and the crystal-clear waters of the lake itself. Everyone had a fabulous time, with no struggles at all with the heat.

In fact, all that sunshine just made the icy natural pools on our hikes even more inviting. Plus, there's A/C back at the ranch, at Villa Miela Lake Retreat and a salt-water swimming pool. Everything a sun-loving water baby needs to enjoy the best summer holiday!

The sign of a great group holiday? When the WhatsApp chat’s still buzzing long after everyone’s gone home.

Last week, four families arrived on our Lake Skadar holiday as strangers. They left as friends. 💚

Imagine heading out on a hike and spotting a wild tortoise crossing the trail... 🐢 Well, that's exactly what our guests experienced last week while exploring Lake Skadar and its forested shores. From legless lizards and froglets to a Golden Eagle, Dalmatian Pelican and the beautiful Scarce Swallowtail butterfly. These are just a few of the amazing wildlife encounters our guests get to experience every week. 🌿

📍Durmitor Via Ferrata, Montenegro

Some families like to stroll gently through nature. Our guests last week chose a vertical hike on the Durmitor Via Ferrata, and they thrived! 😄⛰️

Starting at around 2,000m, it’s a 200m climb to the top of Uvita Greda, taking you across steep mountain terrain using fixed steel cables, metal steps and anchors. All the while, incredible views across the Durmitor massif unfold around you.

No advanced climbing skills needed. Just a basic level of fitness, a sense of adventure and our experienced local partners to keep everyone safe and supported along the way. 🧗‍♀️

We’ve loved seeing our family groups embrace their wilder selves on our Lake Skadar Activity Holiday these last few weeks. 💚

Days spent scrambling through caves, jumping into rivers, paddling together, spotting wildlife and exploring the forested shores of Lake Skadar National Park. 🌿 Then back to for a comfy bed, dinner and maybe a competitive game of Catan or Werewolf with newly-made friends.

Sometimes the best family memories are made when the phones stay in the bag and the adventures begin. 🥾

The quickest way to become the coolest parent on holiday? Say "yes" to this… 🇲🇪 💦 😄

Canyoning is one of our favourite family adventures in Montenegro: cool, rushing waterfalls, zip wires, river-wading, cliff-jumping and plenty of laughs. This one hidden in a ravine near Bar has just the right level for beginners and younger adventurers, and it marks the start of a whole week of fun on our 7-day Family Adventure Holiday.

Today's day three, and our families this week are up at the Tara river for more thrills, whitewater rafting. We love seeing the way adventure activities like this bring families closer through shared challenges, thrilling experiences, and memories that last long after the holiday ends.

A little bit of Montenegro does a whole lot of good. 🇲🇪☀😄

When Mind Over Matter UK asked us to create a tailor-made adventure in Montenegro, we came up with this: hiking to hidden waterfalls, canyoning, kayaking peaceful rivers, swimming in crystal-clear waters, exploring the wild beauty of Lake Skadar, tasting local wines, and taking on the legendary Tara River rapids. Every day was a reminder of how energising and restorative time in nature can be.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this month. You embraced every challenge, supported one another and threw yourselves into every adventure. We couldn't be prouder of what you achieved.

Our Villa Miela holiday hosts spend so much time on and around Lake Skadar, they say it’s sometimes easy to forget just how extraordinary this place is... until seeing it through the eyes of our guests.

Over the past few weeks, people staying with us have talked about how peaceful the lake feels or how seeing pelicans and so much protected wildlife in its natural habitat is something they'll remember long after returning home.

They've loved discovering the quieter side of Montenegro too, like hikes through hidden trails 🥾 and visiting family-run wineries where generations of tradition are still alive.

And of course, having Villa Miela as a their base to experience it all. Time and time again, guests tell us it feels like a home from home. 🏡

That's why we're so happy to see this unique corner of Montenegro receive the recognition it deserves as part of UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves. 💚
