Tucked away near Talaton, Larkbeare Grange is proof that luxury and sustainability go hand in hand. This country house B&B runs its heating and lighting entirely without fossil fuels or emissions, while guests sleep easy in Egyptian cotton linen.

Four luxury en-suite rooms, a beautiful garden, and a warm welcome await, just five minutes from the A30 and easy reach of Exeter.

Their approach is simple: do the little things well and exceed expectations. Judging by their shelf of awards (including Gold from the Green Tourism Business Scheme), it’s working.

Fancy a day out that ticks every box?

Greendale Farm Shop, just outside Exeter on the edge of East Devon, might be exactly what you’re after.

Inside you’ll find a working farm shop: their own meat from the butchers, fish straight off the boats, fresh bread baked daily, and shelves full of goodies from local suppliers. Grab a bite at Greendale Kitchen afterwards, or treat yourself to fish and chips cooked on site with their own potatoes.

Bring the family and make a day of it on the free farm trail, an easy stroll past donkeys, alpacas, llamas and even Oscar the ostrich. And good news for four-legged visitors too: this one’s dog-friendly, with free parking, too.

Sitting right on Sidmouth’s Regency Esplanade, Hotel Elizabeth has one of the best seats in East Devon. Most of the 28 en-suite rooms look straight out over Lyme Bay, with the red cliffs of the Jurassic Coast as your view.

It’s not just a place to sleep, though. The kitchen makes the most of fresh, locally sourced produce, with lunch and evening dining both on offer, so it’s worth a visit even if you’re not staying. Family-friendly, wheelchair accessible, and non-smoking throughout for that proper sea air (sorry, genuine sea air!).

If you’re planning a trip to Sidmouth, this one’s a strong contender for where to rest your head.

This looks like the Mediterranean... but it's actually the UK. You don't need to fly abroad to experience turquoise waters and sun-soaked beaches.

Tucked away on a family-run farm above the Otter Valley, Coldharbour Field Kitchen serves breakfasts, lunches, tapas and wood-fired pizzas seven days a week, built around homegrown and local ingredients, including their own lamb and pork.

Award-winning too - Devon Tourism Awards Gold and Taste of the West Gold for both the Field Kitchen and Farm Shop.

Grab a seat on the decking for sunset views across the valley, or bring the dog along, they’ve got their own dog-friendly menu. Next door, the farm shop is packed with homemade preserves, local spirits and gifts.

The whole place runs entirely off-grid, powered by the sun.

A genuine taste of East Devon, from farm to fork.
