“Today we left Lima and headed for Cusco, which was once the capital of the Inca Empire and is now known for its archaeological remains and its Spanish colonial architecture. Plaza de Armas is the central square in the old city, with arcades, carved wooden balconies and Incan walls. Very pretty is is too

The flight in was a bit bumpy and scary, the pilot had to abort landing the plane twice due to high winds which made the approach dangerous. Thankfully he landed on the 3rd attempt. I am already and petrified of flying so you can imagine how scared I was

Today was really about getting used at being at a really high altitude. The good news is that I haven't suffered from the dreaded attitude sickness. My hard work at improving my fitness and cardio level seemed to have paid off. I was able to walk up and down hills with little impact of lower oxygen levels.

Although it was supposed to be a day of rest we still managed to see a far bit of the city including a chocolate making factory, a beautiful shop selling high end alpaca knitwear and markets selling all kinds of wears.i was fascinated by the street names.

The evening ended on a roof top restaurant enjoying pre dinner drinks followed by a very large portion of "Alpaca of the herb " I can't bring myself to eat guinea pig.”

Train: California Zephyr
From Emeryville, passengers board the California Zephyr, one of Amtrak’s most iconic routes. This train travels through the heart of the United States, passing stunning landscapes like the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada.

We have a choice of ranches, they are not all the same!

DUDE RANCH - Horseback riding is the major focus of a Dude ranch holiday. They tend to have a weekly programme of western activities such as wild west shows, rodeo visits, square dances, barbecues and a host of sports and outdoor activities.

WORKING RANCH - This is where you really do become a cowboy! Working ranches raise livestock and crops, so guests have a major role to play in the daily working activities. Your activities will be based on the current needs of the ranch, but you could learn how to drive cattle or horses, rope steers, secure livestock by repairing fencing and even try branding and immunizing

RESORT RANCH - Resort ranches tend to be larger properties, created specifically for guests, which offer horseback riding alongside a number of other activities such as fishing, rafting, cowboy cookouts, cattle drives and guided hikes. Most will also have a swimming pool and many offer a spa. Generally, these will be of a higher standard than other ranch types, with a focus on the accommodations which tend to be in the main ranch house, log cabins and high-end tented cabins.
