We have just upgraded to an American fridge freezer with ice and water , also a paint upgrade ready for our lovely guests ❤️
We are booked until the end of September but then quite a bit of availability 🍾🥂

What better way to cool down after a hot day , lovely evening swim at the beach , the dogs certainly didn’t complain , oh and we were the only ones there !!!🩷🩷🩷

Maybe one of the best love stories of the 20 th century
Tolkien served in the First World War but got trench fever and was sent to Holderness at thirtle bridge camp between Roos and withernsea , his wife Edith used to rent house to be close to him and one day they went for a walk round Roos , they stop at the small wood near the church called Dents Garth .
Among the Hemlock she danced for him with her long black flowing hair , he watched in awe , she also was carrying their first child .
He was then sent to Hull he began writing with the characters of Beren a mortal and luthien the elf maiden .
This lead to middle earth , with the hobbit and the lord of the rings all of which started in Roos .
When they died they both had the inscription of Beren and Luthien on the grave stones , 50 odd years later Tolkien still remember that day in Roos ❤️
So go to the church and walk past Dents Garth and look at these beautiful statues

A great day out and something different

Spurn Head

Spurn is a nature reserve with sensitive, diverse and wildlife-rich habitats. It is also now a ‘tidal island’ with a lighthouse at the end of the reserve at Spurn point which can be accessed on foot.

A huge tidal surge washed away part of the road in 2013, you can still see some of the road and indeed as you pass the wash over area, from there onwards the road is much easier to walk on than the sand (apart from the places it’s fallen away!)

It was quite bracing walking on the sand exposed to the winds. Mine really enjoyed spotting sea glass and looking for shells along the beach. We even got to see the ‘Unimog’ that is used as part of the Spurn Safari package - a great way to explore the wash and lighthouse without the lengthy walk but a bit pricey for a family of 5!

The Lighthouse is open on certain days but height restrictions apply. Information can be found at the Discovery Centre opposite the pay and display car park. Inside the Centre there is also a cafe and toilets.

We didn’t quite make it to the lighthouse, the rain put mine off the final stretch but we did enjoy a nice walk nevertheless seeing lots of wildlife and even a lovely rainbow.

Dogs are only allowed on certain areas of the reserve. Full information can be found on the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s website.
