An old school British red telephone box, repurposed for exchanging books 📚

Located on Cowbridge High Street, this traditional red telephone box has been transformed into a free community book exchange, giving a historic landmark a second life.

The project was brought to life by Suzanna and Geoff Jenkins through BT's Adopt a Kiosk scheme, with support from Cowbridge with Llanblethian Town Council. Geoff built the bookshelves by hand, a bespoke sign was created, and local residents quickly filled the shelves by donating books.

Today, Suzanna and Geoff continue to care for the library, unlocking it each morning, locking it each evening, and keeping the collection organised. There's even a dedicated children's section, with Amanda Jones of Amanda Jones Jewellery helping to look after it whenever they're away.

The book exchange has become a much-loved part of the community, where anyone can take a book, leave a book, and help keep the shelves stocked for others to enjoy.

A wonderful example of how a disused phone box can be transformed into something that brings people together, and another reason to love Cowbridge. ❤️📖

Have you visited one of Caerphilly's oldest buildings?

The Courthouse is a piece of Welsh history dating back to the 14th century.

Originally built as a local courthouse following a Welsh uprising in 1316, the building has witnessed centuries of change. Over the years, it was expanded in the 17th and 19th centuries, became home to members of the Price family, and even served as a doctor's surgery before becoming the welcoming pub and restaurant it is today.

Today, you can enjoy a drink or a meal while overlooking Castell Caerffili / Caerphilly Castle, the largest castle in Wales and one of the most impressive medieval fortresses in Europe.

A pint with more than 700 years of history? That's hard to beat. 🍻🏰

Your guide to Wednesday’s spectacular solar eclipse and Perseid meteor shower ✨🌒

Wales is in for a rare night of stargazing, with two major astronomical events happening within just a few hours of each other. On Wednesday evening, a dramatic partial solar eclipse will cross Welsh skies, the largest eclipse visible from Wales in decades, and the most significant until 2090.

In Cardiff, around 93% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon, with the eclipse reaching its peak at approximately 7:13pm.

Looking for somewhere special to watch it? Rhossili Bay on the Gower has been named one of the UK's top viewing locations, while the wider Gower Peninsula, Swansea and Rest Bay in Porthcawl are also excellent spots to find an open view of the sky. 🌌

And once the Sun has set, the show isn't over. ✨

The Perseid meteor shower, one of the year's most spectacular meteor showers, will also be reaching its peak. The shower is active from mid-July until 23 August, with the best chance of seeing meteors in the early hours of 12 and 13 August, between midnight and dawn.

Did you know? Meteor showers occur when Earth passes through trails of debris left behind by comets or asteroids as they travel around the Sun. ☄️

⚠️ Important: Never look directly at the Sun during a solar eclipse. Even when most of the Sun is covered, the remaining light can cause serious eye damage. Use certified eclipse glasses designed specifically for solar viewing. Regular sunglasses, binoculars and telescopes are not safe for viewing the eclipse.

Wednesday night will be one to remember ✨
