Scotland is home to some of the most breathtaking, peaceful landscapes you could ever imagine and Lockside is no different. 🌿✨ Our stunning shepherds huts will soon be ready, along with our cosy cottages.

We’re just putting the finishing touches on a few bits and pieces, fencing hot tubs and more. We can’t wait to welcome our guests and share this beautiful place with you all!

Sodgers’ Pool, also known as the Soldier’s Pool, is just a 20 min walk from Lochside. This pool gained its name during the early 19th century when approximately 60 to 70 officers from the Napoleonic Wars—hailing from countries such as France, Italy, Germany, and Poland—were billeted in the Sanquhar and Crawick areas between 1812 and 1815. These officers, many accompanied by their servants, were granted considerable freedom under a “Parole of Honour,” allowing them to roam within a three-mile radius of the burgh boundary. Sodgers’ Pool, with its small beach, became a favored spot for these prisoners to relax and swim. 

In addition to its association with the Napoleonic prisoners, Crawick Glen is rich in local legends. Notably, the Witches’ Linn and Witches’ Craig are areas within the glen linked to tales of witchcraft and supernatural activities. Furthermore, the glen is reputed to have served as a hiding place for Sir William Douglas and his soldiers during the Wars of Scottish Independence, as they strategized the recapture of Sanquhar Castle from English forces. 

Today, Crawick Glen, with features like Sodgers’ Pool, remains a cherished destination for both locals and visitors, offering scenic walks and a glimpse into the area’s storied past.
