📣TIME FOR A TRIM📣

It is time for the Thornhill trees to have their regular trim (pollard).

To ensure the longevity of the trees and to keep them in a manageable condition, work will be carried out in August to pollard the branches on North Drumlanrig Street and East and West Morton Street.

Disruption will be kept to a minimum and the trees will soon recover.

One small step for man... one memorable visit to Drumlanrig! 🌙

In the early hours of 21 July 1969, the BBC broadcast the iconic footage of Neil Armstrong taking his historic first steps on the Moon - a moment watched by millions across the UK and beyond.

But did you know that just three years later, whilst on a visit to Scotland, the legendary astronaut visited Drumlanrig Castle? He stayed as a guest of the Duke and Duchess, and even planted a tree during his stay!

That very tree, a Northern Red Oak (Quercus borealis), still stands proudly in the Castle Gardens today. 🌳

Have you spotted it on your visit?

📣 DRUMLANRIG WOODLANDS - PUBLIC SAFETY 📣

🚫Please be reminded that the main area of Drumlanrig Woods (accessed via the top Castle car park) is still closed due to severe storm damage earlier this year.

Our Forestry Team is still working hard to clear the trails, and we kindly ask all visitors to avoid this area so the work can continue safely.

✅In the meantime, we have a host of NEW walking trails, all way-marked around the grounds (as pictured).

These walks start from the lower car park (beside the entrance to the Playground and Gardens). See here:

The Pink Palace

A royal welcome awaits you at Drumlanrig Castle

Immerse yourself in history at majestic Drumlanrig Castle. The finely hewn red sandstone that gives the ‘Pink Palace’ its affectionate name, adds to the beauty of what is regarded as one of the finest examples of 17th Century Renaissance architecture in Scotland. As you stand beneath the Castle’s imposing façade you’ll take in the same breathtaking views across the Nith Valley that convinced the first Duke of Queensberry to build his ancestral home here.
