Dog friendly… or properly dog friendly? 🐾

One of the things that makes us happiest when we read the Saretta guest book is seeing how often guests mention just how welcome their dogs feel here.

A few recent favourites…

“You truly know the meaning of the words ‘dog welcome’.”

“It’s so lovely to be able to relax in a proper dog friendly place.”

“Dogs are so well catered for. You really only need to bring their food. Everything else is provided.”

“You have thought of everything for the dogs — we brought 4!”

And that is exactly what we want Saretta to be.

Not somewhere dogs are simply tolerated, but somewhere they are genuinely part of the holiday too. 🐶💙

With dog beds, bowls, towels, buggies, drying robes, crates, toys, treats and a secure garden, we try to make life as easy as possible for both dogs and their humans.

Because when the dogs are happy and settled, everyone gets to relax a little more. 🐾

Saretta sleeps 4, welcomes up to 5 dogs free (more by arrangement), and dogs are welcome throughout. Sea Palling beach is just a 5-minute walk away, with local amenities close at hand & open all year round too.

Fast forward a few months…

A Norfolk Pause between one year and the next 🌊........

Your summer holiday feels like a distant memory. The darker evenings have arrived, the Christmas rush has been and gone and now you’re in that funny little space between one year and the next.

You’ve hosted, travelled, shopped, cooked, socialised, eaten too much, spent too much… and generally December-ed yourself into submission.

Then you pack a bag, put the dogs in the car and head to the Norfolk coast.

No itinerary.

Long beach walks with the dogs. Sandy paws. Sea air. Coffee. Books. Maybe a dog-friendly pub lunch.

Back to Saretta as the light fades. Dogs snoozing. Feet up. Glass of wine by the open fire.

And somewhere in amongst it all, a little space to reflect.

What was good about this year?
What wasn’t?
What do you want more of next year?
What are you happy to leave behind?

No resolutions. No pressure to reinvent yourself. Just a little time and space for you and your dogs to slow down, breathe out and reset before stepping into a new year.

🐾 Sleeps 4
🐾 Up to 5 dogs stay free
🌊 3-night minimum stay
🍽️ Local pubs, shops and amenities remain open over the winter

Our New Year break is available to book now.

📣 Saturday Shoutout: Smallsticks Café Happisburgh ☕🐾

This week's shoutout takes us to Cart Gap, Happisburgh — and a lovely little spot to add to your Norfolk list.

Smallsticks Café is a family-run café tucked away on farmland just a short stroll from Cart Gap beach, making it rather perfectly placed for combining two of our favourite things… a good dog walk and something delicious afterwards! 🐕🌊☕

The menu is packed with home-cooked breakfasts and lunches, homemade cakes and plenty of locally sourced produce — including crab and lobster landed at Cart Gap and eggs and potatoes from their own farm.

🐾 And what about the dogs?

Dogs aren't permitted inside the café, but they are very welcome in the enclosed rear garden, where there are also covered huts offering a little shelter from the Norfolk weather.

We think this sounds like a rather lovely Saretta morning:

🌊 Head to Cart Gap from Sea Palling, enjoying a lovely beach walk with the dogs
🐾 Work up an appetite in the sea air
☕ Then wander over to Smallsticks for coffee, breakfast, lunch or perhaps a slice of cake

You'll even get views across the farmland towards Happisburgh Lighthouse while you're there. ❤️

📍 Cart Gap Road, Happisburgh, NR12 0QL (if you'd prefer to drive there)

Another lovely independent Norfolk business to pop on your list for your next stay at Saretta.

A little Norfolk pause 🌾....

It doesn’t have to be a famous view.

Sometimes it’s just a quiet path, sunshine through the trees and grasses moving in the breeze.

The sort of place you’d probably walk straight past if you were in a hurry.

Good job we’re not. 💚

🐾 Wednesday Walkies: The Great Eastern Pingo Trail & Thompson Common

What if today's walkies came in two parts? 🐕💨🌿

Start the morning at Sea Palling beach and let those legs stretch — give your dogs a good run, a few zoomies and plenty of sea air before heading back to Saretta for breakfast.

Then, later in the day, swap the wide-open beach for something completely different… The Great Eastern Pingo Trail at Thompson Common.

This is one for slowing things down.

Rather than another big off-lead run, it's a chance to pop the lead on, lower the pace and let your dog explore with their nose. Woodland, wetlands, heath, boardwalks and the fascinating ancient pingo ponds make this a wonderfully varied walk with an altogether different feel from the coast.

🐾 Good to know with dogs

Dogs are welcome at Thompson Common, but must be kept on leads. This is an important wildlife site and you may also encounter grazing cattle, ponies, sheep or goats along the way.

That makes it a particularly nice choice for practising a little calm, controlled walking after those morning beach zoomies — with an enormous amount for curious noses to investigate along the way.

🥾 The walk

The Great Eastern Pingo Trail is around 5½ miles / 9km, so allow roughly 3 hours if you're taking your time.

Expect a mixture of woodland paths, old railway track, boardwalk and wetter ground. It can become muddy or even seasonally flooded, so sensible footwear is definitely a good idea.

🚗 Parking is free parking at the Great Eastern Pingo Trail/Thompson Common car park near Thompson.
📍 Sat nav: NR17 1DP

There are no toilets or refreshments on the route, so best to take water for both humans and dogs — and perhaps a snack for halfway! You'll find some travel water bottles in Saretta's conservatory that you are welcome to use on your days out.

🌿 Our doggy verdict?

We rather like the idea of making a day of it.

Morning: Sea Palling beach for running, playing and zoomies. 🌊🐕💨
Afternoon: Pingo Trail for sniffing, exploring and a slower adventure together. 🌳🐾

Two completely different Norfolk walks — and probably some very contented dogs snoozing back at Saretta afterwards. 💙

🍂 A little touch of autumn at Saretta…

There’s something lovely about the first few signs of the seasons changing, so we’ve been adding a few gentle autumn touches around Saretta this past week.

One of the things we love most about Norfolk is being present in the seasons — noticing those little changes as the year unfolds on the coast, and letting Saretta change gently along with them.

Who else is quietly very pleased that cosy season is on its way? 🍁

📍 SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT – North Walsham

This week's Saturday Spotlight takes us to North Walsham, one of those handy Norfolk towns that's well worth knowing about when you're staying at Saretta.

With its historic town centre, independent shops, cafés and places to stop for a bite to eat, it's a lovely spot for a wander – and somewhere you can easily combine a little exploring with picking up anything you might need during your stay.

Alongside the lovely independents, you'll also find the convenience of larger supermarkets here, making North Walsham a useful place to stop and stock up on a few holiday essentials before heading on to Saretta. Then, with the food shopping taken care of, you can arrive, unpack and get on with the much more important business of starting your Norfolk holiday! 🏡🌊🐾

It's also a great option for one of those Norfolk days when you fancy swapping sandy paws and coastal paths for a potter around the shops and a coffee. 🐾☕

We took these photos on a recent early morning wander around the town and thought we'd share a little glimpse with you.

Sometimes it's the smaller towns and everyday corners of Norfolk that are just as enjoyable – and useful – to discover as the better-known destinations. 💙

When you're away, are you a 'plan every day' person – or do you love finding somewhere new and simply having a wander?

04/09/2026

Norfolk is calling… 🌾💙

We're heading to Saretta today for a little day of making, improving and exploring.

There are a few new touches waiting to be added, some favourite Norfolk corners to revisit and hopefully a few new ones to discover along the way.

And, of course, there should be time for a good walk or two. 🐾

But before all of that, here's your Friday Norfolk Pause.

A few seconds of rolling Norfolk waves at Sea Palling. No rush. No agenda. Just the sea. 🌊

A little reminder to slow down, look around and make some space for what you love.

Happy Friday. 💙
