✈️ AIR TRAFFIC CHAOS: WHEN YOUR TRAVEL AGENT REALLY EARNS THEIR KEEP…

Following yesterday’s air traffic control problems, thousands of passengers found themselves stranded at airports across the UK.

Families were forced into full survival mode—attempting to stay alive on £10 pints, airport meal deals and Toblerones the size of a small child. 🍺🍫

One man reportedly had to remortgage his house after buying his family a Full English breakfast two mornings in a row. 🥓🍳

WHSmith continued its humanitarian efforts by offering bottles of water in exchange for the contents of passengers’ savings accounts. 💧
Meanwhile, an air traffic controller was heard saying:

“It looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking and smoking…” 😆

Travel has changed.

Most of us are perfectly capable of going online and finding a holiday. In fact, quite often when someone contacts me, they already have a pretty good idea of where they want to go — and sometimes they’ve found exactly what they want.

✈️ TRAVELLING TO EUROPE? AN IMPORTANT EES UPDATE

If you’re travelling to Europe soon, there’s a change to the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) from today, 6 September 2026, that’s worth knowing about.

First of all – EES is already in operation. It became fully operational across the participating European countries in April.

However, during the introduction of the system, border authorities have had some flexibility to temporarily reduce or suspend biometric checks if queues became excessive.

👉 That temporary flexibility ends from 6 September.

This means travellers should now expect the EES biometric procedures to be used more consistently when crossing participating European borders.

🇬🇧 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR BRITISH HOLIDAYMAKERS?

If you’re travelling on a British passport for a short stay, EES electronically records your entry and exit and can involve:

• Scanning your passport
• Having a facial image taken
• Fingerprint checks

You do not need to apply for EES, and there is no EES fee to pay before you travel.

⏰ ALLOW A LITTLE EXTRA TIME

As the biometric checks become more consistently applied, there is the possibility of longer queues at some airports, ports and border crossings.

My advice? Don’t panic – just allow plenty of time, particularly if you’re travelling through a busy departure point.

⚠️ AND EES IS NOT ETIAS!

These are two completely separate things.

EES = the electronic border Entry/Exit System and is already operating.

ETIAS = the future travel authorisation that British travellers will eventually need for many European trips. ETIAS is NOT currently operating and you cannot apply for it yet.

So if you see websites offering to sell you an ETIAS now, please don’t hand over your money!
