Two families. One cottage. Sheldrake has its own path leading straight to the shore – and stunning sea views from almost every angle.

Picture windows in the lounge frame Whitesands bay; separate from that, a large farmhouse kitchen and dining area designed for family meals with chaos and laughter. Two double bedrooms have their own en-suites. A family bathroom plus six beds in three rooms sleep the kids. Stone walls, leather sofas and wood-burner make a perfect space for fun evenings whilst the sun set provides an idyllic view.

The garden wraps around in three south-facing terraces, planted with Cornish palms and Echium – a private sun trap where the adults watch the children on the beach.

Girl Annie arrives across a nautical bridge – you're barely at the door and already you know this cottage has a story. A former fisherman's net loft, reverse-levelled to grab the light: the first-floor living room, kitchen and dining area flow as one open space – exposed beams, a working wood-burner, and a large picture window that doesn't stop showing you the sea. Sunsets here are the kind people talk about for years afterward.

Downstairs is all peace – a double bedroom with its own sea view, a cosy bunk room for the kids, a bathroom that feels tucked away. Outside, a pretty cottage garden with uninterrupted sea views, seats and a BBQ for long evenings.

Welcome to Tresillian. A double-fronted stone house full of charming character – beautiful stone walls inside and out, beams catching the light, a stunning inglenook fireplace with a log burner for cosy evenings.

Eight of you across four bedrooms. The kitchen has an island and the garden doors fold open to a sun-trapped courtyard. A master suite holds a freestanding roll-top bath at the foot of a four-poster bed with a sea view. Reverse-levelled, the views live upstairs. The wooden bridge delivers you straight into the living space – floor-to-ceiling windows holding the whole of Whitesands Bay. The first-floor balcony steps out to the Atlantic, which stretches from here to Sennen. Downstairs is light and airy – a quiet bedroom, its own wetroom – your private retreat when you want to step away.

Terraced tropical plants soften the granite walls. 250 metres below is the beach. Above is the coast path. The view is the luxury here – endless and in every room.

A former fisherman's net loft, Castaways lies snug in the dunes, 250 metres from the sand.

South-facing, now it's the light that lives here... fold back the glazed doors of the high-ceilinged conservatory and the living space and sun-trapped garden become one big room – granite walls and old beams for character, underfloor heating for sandy feet.

Perfect for two couples – an antique brass and iron bed downstairs with its own wet room, and, up among the beams, a second antique double with a bathroom of its own and an original sash window holding the bay. A floor each, a bathroom each – a holiday shared, without the sharing. And from the garden, on the clearest days, you can just make out the Isles of Scilly.

There's a bath at Penrose Cottage you should know about – a big corner bath with a seat and a sea view, the kind you could sit in for hours just watching the bay.

That's upstairs. Downstairs it's all exposed stone and old beams – leather sofas surround the wood-burner, a pine kitchen with the sea in the window, and a stable door opening onto a tucked-away stone terrace, with steps climbing up into the private walled garden.

Three bedrooms sleep six, including a little bunk room with a skylight the kids will claim before you've finished unpacking. And the beach is 250 metres down the dune path – with no cars anywhere in the valley, it's the kind of walk where the kids run ahead.

Down a flight of winding granite steps, tucked into the valley 200 metres from the sand, there's a cottage made for cuddling on the sofa.

Evenings at Cats Cradle go like this: waves rolling in beyond the conservatory glass, the wood-burner ticking away under old beams, and a spiral staircase winding up to a bedroom where the sea is still in view when you wake.

Some places you drive to. Basking Shark, you walk to — down a sandy path off Sunny Corner Lane, through the dunes, until the Atlantic opens up in front of you.
Tucked into the dunes 150 metres from the sand, it's all exposed granite and warm slate underfoot, with a kitchen window you'll lose whole mornings to. Out in the little hillside garden there's a bench, and the whole of Whitesands Bay.
A studio hideaway for two. No cars, no traffic — just the waves, the coast path on your doorstep, and if you're lucky, the cottage's namesake gliding past offshore.
