SOMETHING WORTH SHARING WITH YOU THIS MORNING.

A guest who has just completed our 5-day Big Severn Adventure left this comment on one of our older Facebook posts. Which means hardly anyone will see it, so I’m sharing it again here.

“Just done this trip. Five-day trip.

Stunning riverside scenery and wildlife. Didn’t see another soul on the river, bar the occasional angler, and camped all the way. Just a real surreal experience at being one with nature.

If you’re thinking about it, then get it booked.

Nigel, the owner, is a real professional in what he does. Organised, punctual, very knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble.

After launch, the tracked canoes mean he can see where you are at any time and adjust your trip accordingly. He also lets you know where the wild camping and official sites are.

We will do this trip again for sure. Can’t recommend highly enough.”

Thank you. Feedback like this means a lot.

2027 bookings for our 5-day River Severn adventures are now open:

OCTOBER ON THE RIVER SEVERN 🍂

Our 2026 season was due to finish at the end of September, but after a couple of recent requests, I have decided to extend it into the first half of October.

October offers the chance to experience the River Severn as the autumn colours deepen along the banks and the landscape begins to change.
Three, four, five and seven-day canoe adventures are available at our low-season prices. Our booking calendar shows the dates currently available.
We provide the canoe and equipment, route planning, transport and support throughout your journey. You can camp, stay in B&Bs or combine the two, and no previous canoeing experience is needed.

If you have been waiting for the chance to take on the Severn in its autumn colours, send me a message with:
• How many people would be travelling
• The dates you could do
• How many days you would like on the river

I normally keep politics away from the Big Severn Adventure page, and I intend to keep doing that.

But I feel strongly enough about what has happened to RNLI volunteers recently that I'm quite happy to stick my head above the parapet on this one.

Whatever your views are on immigration, and people are absolutely entitled to have those views and argue for changes to government policy, targeting and harassing volunteer lifeboat crews because of who they have rescued is simply wrong.

When someone is in danger on the water you rescue them.

You don't stop to ask where they came from, what paperwork they have or whether you agree with the decisions that brought them there. You deal with the person in front of you who may otherwise die.

The RNLI has been doing that for over 200 years. Volunteers going out in some of the worst conditions, putting themselves at risk to save complete strangers, and doing it for an organisation that relies on public donations rather than being funded by the state.

For any of those volunteers to then have to worry about being identified, harassed or their families targeted because they did exactly what we expect rescuers to do is a new low.

I work on the water. I take people onto the water for a living and take their safety seriously.

One day any one of us could be the person needing somebody else to come out and help us.

So on this one there isn't really a fence I'm interested in sitting on.

We stand with the RNLI and the volunteers who go out to save lives.

The word “support” gets thrown around a lot in outdoor adventure.

For Big Severn Adventure, it is not just a marketing tagline.

It is the preparation before you arrive, the advice and guidance while you are on the river, the ability to contact us when conditions change, and knowing that someone with real experience is keeping an eye on the journey.

Our aim is to spot problems early. Sometimes that means we can be on our way to support you before you even realise you need us.

You are not simply handed a canoe and sent on your way.

That level of care is a genuine part of what you pay for. It is why our trips are about more than the equipment, and why you can set off knowing you will be properly looked after on the river.

Have you ever been on an adventure where the right support made all the difference?

We’ve explained exactly what our River Support means here:

IF YOU WANT TO CANOE THE RIVER SEVERN IN 2026, THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE

September is the final month of our 2026 season, and the middle of the month is already filling quickly.

There is still availability across our 3, 4, 5 and 7-day canoe trips, with the first autumn colours beginning to show along the river.

No previous canoeing experience is needed. We provide the canoe and equipment, handle the logistics and support you throughout your adventure.

If you’ve been thinking about doing it this year, now is the time to make it happen.

Yesterday was day three of our Great Glen Trip a morning of paddling along Loch Oich
Before a choice, do we continue on to the canal and several portages around the locks, or do we do the River Oich and it’s rapids
since we had timed our depart day to align with a dam release that ment we could do the river, we finally arrived at fort Augustus
To the bemusement of the tourists as we floated under the bridge and into Loch Ness and our camp for the night
