Five tips to have your best Safari experience.
Tip 1: the temptation to sleep in as real. The regret is worse. Set the alarm for the early morning drive: the hour after sunrise is when predators are still active, light is extraordinary and the bush feels entirely different. Cool, quiet and alive. Nobody has ever come back and said they wish they skipped the morning drive.
Tip 2: stop chasing the big five checklist. Most extraordinary moments are never the ones you have planned. Go with curiosity not a scoreboard you’ll come home with better memories.
Tip 3: your guide makes or break the trip. The most expensive camp with an average guide will lose every time to a mid range camp with an exceptional one. The best guides don’t just find the animals. They make you understand what you’re seeing.
Tip 4: the season matters more than you know. Most first timers pick a country then ask when to go. I’d say probably do it the other way round.
And the final tip is simply to pack less than you think and make it neutral.
