So the past few days have seen plenty of huss upto 12lb,the spurdogs have eased off with only a few upto 12lb being landed. 2 tope have been landed... A mini tope at 2lb and a lovely 37lb male... Mackerel were scarce yesterday but still plenty of small whiting. Species count for the boat is now upto 19,with a couple of rarities.... A thornback and a scad

So the bait fish continue to be "excessively" plentiful, especially the mackerel which are preferring the tiny feathers ...

So the bait fish continue to be "excessively" plentiful, especially the mackerel which are preferring the tiny feathers and sabiki at the moment.... Long may it last!! Nothing of size today or yesterday but plenty of huss upto 10lb on Sunday and a bonus 9lb thornback

So with thunderstorms forecast, we needed to keep one eye on the weather, but not to worry, all we got was torrential ra...

So with thunderstorms forecast, we needed to keep one eye on the weather, but not to worry, all we got was torrential rain for most of the day!! We caught hundreds of mackerel for bait, +150 herrings, loads and loads of whiting, in fact there were probably too many bait fish present with the shoals only 15ft under the boat... The tide was running at 2kts with no wind to push us along and so we anchored inshore and found huss to 10lb...as the tide eased, we moved offshore, anchored up and when the tide started to ebb, we caught over 30 spurs upto 19lb with the majority in the 14-16lb range
The wind whipped up with xc-weather.co.uk giving 24-30NW and thus we had a lumpy ride home..

A good day afloat today.... Mackerel coming up 6 at a time and small whiting the same, so plenty of bait. Spurs were at all marks fished with most +15lb and the best 18lb...also got 1st tope of the season at 39lb with another lost

So another trip out to the offshore banks and +140ft of water produced more spurs to 15lb and strings and strings of mac...

So, just a short 4hr trip out to one of the offshore banks were
We found plenty of mackerel and whiting for bait.... With an easing wind against the tide, I opted to drift big baits and not anchor up... We caught 15 spurdogs upto 17lb with non under 10lb...we also found small pollack inshore and a tub Gurnard

Didn't realise how much gear I had stowed on board for fishing at Shetland.... All cleared out now and ready for Portpat...

We had to stay in Oban yesterday to avoid the bad weather and left 0630hrs this morning and spent 8hrs and 60 miles in 12-15ft seas... Like being in a car wash for 8hrs...tiring,demoralising and physically demanding... Not pleasant!!

So we tied up in Oban after 5hrs travelling in a rough car wash ride from ft William and around the islands to the north...
