So with a windy week forecast,just a quick update on the catches over the weekend...tope continue to run but don't get hooked!Pollack to 4lb showing under the cliffs,some larger codling to 2.5lb showing close in,our first conger of the year showed up,plenty of huss to 8lb and off an inshore peak we got 7cuckoo wrasse and a 3lb ballan

So Willie and Gail came down to portpatrick to target tope and the plan was to get mackerel from the midway bank where we had been catching strings and strings of them all week...all was going to plan until the dolphins turned up and the mackerel disappeared!!
We anchored on the offshore bank for 2fritless hours and then moved to an inshore reef...after a while sitting,we were joined inshore of us by onyermarks. A shoal of mackerel passed through,we caught some and used one as a live bait....shortly after,a bite and a run were registered,Gail hooked the tope,we landed it and weighed it at 58lb.
A new boat record......

Today we targeted tope again,3 runs but none landed

So here's a few fish from the last 10 days...tope 39&40lb,tub gurnard 2lb,Ballans to 3lb....mackerel remain plentiful by...

So here's a few fish from the last 10 days...tope 39&40lb,tub gurnard 2lb,Ballans to 3lb....mackerel remain plentiful by the stringful in the clear water...tope are running and dropping baits and 95%of the action is inshore...the offshore banks are barren!

So,with yet another windy forecast we set out to find bait...with it being slack tide, mackerel were scarce but once the tide started to flood,we managed 250 in 3drifts over 40minutes!
We found 3 tope today(40,39 &39lb) and having caught 2 rare streaked gurnards last week,we caught another today which appeared to have hybridised with a tub!
The Pollack today,as yesterday were hungry for fish strip and not jelly lures...best fish went 4lb and all we're a lovely deep bronze

Today's weather was atrocious...the wind never eased up,the rain hammered down,we had swells at 1.5m with white tops on but we found fish!
Once the tide started to run,the mackerel fed and we had +150 for the day
We got a tope to the side of the boat, I held it's fin ready to lift in and with one last roll,it was gone!
Inshore Pollack fishing was patchy but the guys persevered with sandeel strip and on the last draft of the day,within seconds of each other,hooked and landed a 10lb and 8.5lb Pollack(Andy in the yellow has the 10lb'er)...both deeply hooked and despatched for the table

So that concludes a week of big tides, murky waters and the catching of several "rarities" :1. 3.5lb mackerel2. Calamar...

So that concludes a week of big tides, murky waters and the catching of several "rarities" :
1. 3.5lb mackerel
2. Calamari squid
3. 2 streaked gurnards(!)
4. **unofficial Scottish record**... 2lb scad(!)

We also managed a couple of tope and pollack to 8.5lb
There are still some spaces avaliable on 8hr trips, scenic/nature trips are running in the evenings but there are no slots available for 3 or 4hr trips until 17th September

So a long day when mackerel where everywhere and in big numbers... A lot of big launce as well, plus numerous other species and some lovely coalies pushing 4lb under the cliffs, best fish today was a 3.5lb mackerel (weighed onboard) and a calamari squid from the slack water at the back of a headland
