The Store in Bettyhill is specialising in seafood this summer season - our lunch out today! (That's Mick with the seafood platter, unfortunately it disagrees with me, but there are still a few burgers, salads and baguettes on the menu for those of us that don't.)

Fiona and Barry live in Armadale and Australia, I popped in as they were setting up yesterday evening and have my eye on a couple of things :)

Barry and Fiona are all set up for their exhibition this weekend - pop in and have a look Saturday and Sunday, 11-4.

An Ethel throwback from nine years ago! Top is the living room fireplace and the bottom is the amazing original fireplace we uncovered in the kitchen. We had long discussions with our builder about opening it up again, but the lintel was cracked and because the house is rubble wall construction, his insurance company wanted an extra £2k to cover him doing the work and would only cover the gable end wall collapsing for a short period after, so very reluctantly we had to cover it back up.

Castlehill Heritage Centre is definitely worth a look if you're heading to or from John o'Groats on a day out.

It's 1910 and Mrs Swanson from Castletown is dressed in her best, ready to emigrate to Canada. Our current exhibition is 'Moving on, Moving in' tales of emigration and immigration.
