Touring in the Cotswolds and you joke with your guests that "this is Blockley, you know, where they film the Father Brown series" and you then stumble on the crew and stars actually filming the new series of the show and they get to meet the main characters of the production!
May have peaked early on this tour....

Afternoon Tea at the rather lovely Burgh Island Hotel

The event that is afternoon tea is documented with origins in Tavistock, Devon (Again, sorry Cornwall as the miners Pasty & Cream Tea itself are also Devon born).

Lady Bedford of Tavistock wanted a way to continue to entertain her lady guests when the Gents were excused post luncheon to discuss 'business'.

The already existing cream tea, something the early Tavy Monks came up with was added to the tier of treats to create a culinary journey and afternoon grazing event.
It has gone on to become a Great British institution in its own right.
Almost all of London's high end hotels serving up their own creative take on the delicacy. The likes of The Savoy & Claridges have served this afternoon event since the 1880s.

It generally consists of classic regional flavours of finger sandwiches, a cream tea with warm scones and seasonal preserve and jam then the French sweet patisseries with influence from a classic art deco decidance era .

Quite the treat....

This afternoon's mode of transport to enable our exit from the Art Deco delights of Burgh Island Hotel post a rather lovely afternoon tea.
An Agatha Christie tour that started in another Art Deco location being the Imperial Hotel in Torquay.
All things Agatha throughout Torquay, followed by a visit to Greenway House, Agatha and Max's summer stay venue then across the Dart through the rolling fields of the South Hams to Bigbury-On-Sea & Burgh Island.
A great end to a fantastic day.
My lovely guests, a Mum & Daughter from Poland, enjoyed the Agatha journey and to finish on her favourite island....well.

A few photos from a Cornwall multi day tour with intrepid guests from Texas.
North, South and West Cornwall covered.
Coastal walks, hidden coves, lost gardens & bustling harbours and plenty of rural countryside.
Sunshine all the way.

Unusually high temperatures here in the South West.
When we checked the readings against their home town in southern Texas, we were warmer by a few degrees in Cornwall than in the Texan heat!
Topping 31°c (88°f!) on the cars outside sensor and back at their home in Texas it was 27°c! (80°c)
Not what they were expecting from sleepy Cornwall.

Fistral Beach

About to collect my tour guests from Texas for day 2 of their Cornish adventures.
Lots of logistics to plan in and plenty to see in this amazing 'heat wave' with today's temp set to reach 30°c down in the South West.

Another short video of the Waverly as she cast off from the town pontoon and paddled up river before turning at Maypool & headed out the Dart to Torquay.
Quite the sight.

It's the wisteria season in Devon.
One of my favorite cottages literally dripping with the plant and flowers in Otterton, East Devon.
Quite possibly as old as the cottage itself!

Another photo of the mighty Waverly paddle steamer alongside at Dartmouth earlier today.
Knowing the local fleet as well as I do, she dwarfed most of them and her presence on the water was quite something.
She's the last sea going paddle steamer in the world and was built in Clyde in 1946.
Currently owned and run by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society and recently been restored to get original 1947 livery.

Quite the sight for anyone in Dartmouth or around Torbay today as she sailed from Dartmouth to Torquay before returning to the Dart and then back to Plymouth.

Impressed we were.
