Although with so many experiences to try from fishing to archery, horseriding to e-biking you certainly won't be bored. The mirrored pods with their own outdoor tub are strategically set apart to offer privacy whilst maximising the spectacular views and the Black Diamond dining experience is the pinnacle of the already amazing standard of food and wine. I can confirm that the sheep were pretty friendly too!

I love learning from the experts and this lady really knew her stuff! She's holding part of an iceberg that had calved off the face of the Tasman Glacier and was floating around in the lake we were on. That was a beautiful, clear piece but apparently the different colours of ice tell you about where on the glacier it's come from and how long ago it broke off.

Orangutans in Borneo

This 2 week trip includes exploring the quaint colonial city of Kuching and venturing out to Bako National Park and an Orangutan sanctuary in the West of Borneo before heading into the forest for a night in a traditional longhouse hosted by members of the Iban tribe.

From there you will take a short flight and be transferred to Sepilok Nature reserve. While staying in a river lodge on the Kinabatangan River take a cruise to spot wildlife and you might be treated to a glimpse of proboscis monkeys, orangutans or pygmy elephants. Another short flight takes you to Kota Kinabalu from where you head to Gaya Island - the final delight on this magical trip.

A Tale of 3 Countries

With just a handful of villas in 66 hectares its not surprising that there's a fantastic feeling of space and privacy at the Mount Cook Lakeside Retreat. Everything in the villas is palatial and the dining and event area in the Moraine has the feeling of a grand hunting lodge with it's large open fireplace and picture windows facing Lake Pukaki.
However, the welcome is anything but aloof as Anna and her team are excellent hosts who can't do enough to make you feel at home and offer the highest level of service. We were treated to a delicious multi-course tasting menu including mushroom and pumpkin ravioli and a scrumptious chocolate fondant.

To top off a wonderful evening we were taken to the on-site Pukaki Observatory. Led by an expert astronomer, we had the pleasure of seeing sight such as the Milky Way and Southern Cross in the world-famous Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve. The retreat has created a special site where you are greeted in the wine cellar before going to the observatory which has a retractable roof and 9 inch reflector telescope - everything you could need to learn all about the Southern night skies.
