Next up in The Queen's Royal Hussars Museum's series of monthly talks is "The Flowers in the Field – Nursing in the Great War" by Sandra Taylor on Thursday 7th August 2025

While the guns thundered on the frontlines, another battle was being fought in wards and field hospitals by women whose courage and compassion saved countless lives.

Often overlooked in the annals of war, nurses endured unimaginable hardship, working in cramped, chaotic conditions with limited supplies and constant danger.

In this poignant and powerful talk, Sandra Taylor sheds light on the evolution of nursing services before and during the First World War. From makeshift hospitals overseas to the wards back home, she shares the stories of the volunteers who faced horrific injuries, exhaustion, and loss yet rarely received the recognition they deserved.

Over 1,500 nurses died during the conflict, but few are named on war memorials.

This bespoke evening includes exclusive before- and after-hours access to the museum, with wine, soft drinks, and a buffet provided. Doors open 6:30pm, talk begins promptly at 7:00pm

Tickets: £14 per person
Available from:
• The Visitor Information Centre
• Eventbrite
• Directly from the museum beforehand or even on the day!

Join them in honouring the forgotten heroines of the Great War, those who served not with weapons, but with unwavering care.
