4 years ago when I built 101 House at the End, I didn’t buy a single piece of “themed décor.” The majority of what you see was handmade, found second-hand, or repurposed.

Here’s exactly what I used:

1. Vintage crockery — charity shops and car boot sales. Mismatched sets look more authentic than anything bought new, and cost under £2 a plate.

2. Handmade potion bottles — old wine bottles spray painted, aged with sandpaper, and labelled with printed parchment paper tea-stained to look old.

3. Handmade wand boxes — offcuts of wood stained dark, topped with vintage buttons from my old haberdashery job I used to have many years ago.

4. Floating candles with a wand remote — battery pillar candles hung on fishing wire from the ceiling.

5. Handmade wax sealed envelopes — tea stained paper, folded and sealed with a wax stamp. Took three evenings to make all of these and i loved every moment making them.

6. Vintage second-hand artwork — every painting came from a charity shop or vintage shop. I love the idea that these old pieces get another chance at life.

7. Gold snake and melting candle effect — the snake is actually a rubber toy snake that I painted and glued onto the sink. The “melting wax” on the bath is textured metal paint.

8. Tissue paper instead of wallpaper — layered tissue paper with PVA glue. This tissue paper was from an old job in All Saints when I was a teenager and when they had a rebrand, i kept a huge roll of it, having no idea it would end up here many years later.

🤍 which thrifty find is your favourite?

Why I refuse to let anyone else do this job…..

Changing the batteries in the floating candles above the stairway is where my creativity officially outweighs my logic! But to create magic for when guests check in, it makes it soooo worth while!

Note to self…. I will NEVER wear flip flops again when changing the batteries in the candles 😅

Nobody actually likes Mondays but this is the pep talk I need to get myself into the swing of the week! Reminding myself that I am the main character of my own story and the voice in my head is the narrator!

This is literally the voice in my head every Monday morning and honestly it hasn’t let me down yet.

✨ Part 2 - Back by popular demand… ✨

Room by room creation breakdowns are returning until I finally finish the in depth e-books for every room in the house that so many of you have been asking for.

Unfortunately, these guides can’t be conjured up with a flick of a wand 🪄 and require rather a lot of muggle effort behind the scenes. They’re taking a little longer than expected, so thank you for bearing with me while I put them together.

In the meantime, I thought I’d share the story behind one of my favourite rooms at 101 House At The End: The Emerald Bedchamber 💚

This room was always destined to be the jewel of the house.

I wanted it to feel rich, moody, and a little bit magical… somewhere you’d happily retreat to after a day exploring York’s cobbled streets. A room that felt like it had its own story to tell.

From the deep emerald wallpaper and vintage treasures to the grand bed taking centre stage, every detail was carefully chosen to create a space that felt cosy, luxurious, and completely removed from the outside world.

Swipe through to see how it all came together.

And tell me… what colour would you choose for your dream magical bedroom?

💚 Emerald green
🖤 Midnight black
💙 Deep sapphire
❤️ Burgundy red

Or something completely different?

Get up. Shake the glitter off. Be absolutely unhinged in the most magnificent way possible…… and then go get stuff DONE!

This is literally the voice in my head every Monday morning and honestly it’s hasn’t let me down yet.

Not going to lie… my Sunday plans have become significantly less exciting lately 😂

With the rain pouring down outside, I can’t think of anything better than a long bubble bath, fresh pyjamas, a good film and absolutely no responsibilities for a few hours.

Honestly, I think rainy days were invented purely as an excuse to slow down and do absolutely nothing guilt-free 🙌

If that sounds like your kind of weekend, there are still a few June, July and August dates available at 101 House at the End ✨

And because summer seems to have forgotten it’s summer… you can enjoy an extra 20% off when you book direct using code SUMMER20.

In the meantime, I thought I’d share the story behind one of my favourite transformations at 101 House At The End: the smallest bedroom in the house.

When I first saw this tiny room, most people would have seen just a single bedroom. I saw an opportunity to create something magical. Proving that small spaces can still make a big impact.

Tell me… what would you rather have in your dream magical house:
• A secret portrait doorway
• A hidden library
• A cosy potion room
Or something else entirely?
