✨ Friday Focus: Meet Terri Ryan✨

This week, we’re shining a light on the incredible Terri Ryan, a passionate storyteller and proud member of our Cobh community.

Terri’s journey is as inspiring as the stories she tells. Qualifying as a Science Teacher from UCC at just 21, specialising in Botany and Herbs, she spent her early career in education before moving into the business world. There, she became a Senior Manager with a multinational company and spent a decade empowering others through Start Your Own Business courses.

In 2015, Terri added “author” to her list of talents with her award-winning book The Bullies’ Predatory Footprint. From there, her creative path flourished, bringing to life tales of bygone days — from the charm of the Corner Shop and Fair Day to evocative stories like Ghosts in the Bog and Murder in the Mountains.

Now a professional Storyteller/Seanchai, registered with Storytellers of Ireland, Terri captivates audiences at private, bespoke events and festivals across Ireland and beyond. Her shows — including Echoes of The Past, Whispers in the Harbour, and Oíche Scéalaíochta — celebrate Ireland’s rich oral traditions and revive the spirit of the Rambling House through storytelling, music, and song.

Terri also shares her knowledge through workshops on storytelling, herbal folklore, and the ancient vocal tradition of Caoineadh (Keening).

📅 Upcoming Events:
• Thursday 23rd July | 6:00–7:30pm
Oíche Scéalaíochta: An Evening of Stories, Song and Ceol with Terri Ryan

📍 The Arch Café & Wine Bar, Cobh
As part of the Cobh Trad Fest

• Friday 24th October | 8:00pm
📍 Saint George’s Arts & Heritage Centre, Mitchelstown

🎟 Tickets available on Eventbrite

A proud mother, granny, and fourth-generation Mitchelstown native now calling Cobh home, Terri continues to keep Irish heritage alive — one story at a time.

💬 If you haven’t yet experienced one of Terri’s events, be sure to add it to your list — it’s truly something special.

Cobh & Harbour Chamber: Celebrating Excellence
Doyle Shipping Group (DSG) has been named the recipient of the prestigious President’s Business Award for 2026, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the local economy and maritime sector.
The award was presented at the President’s Gala Dinner held in Fota Island Resort where Cobh & Harbour Chamber, President, Colin Morehead formally honoured Doyle Shipping Group.
In his acceptance speech, Tim O’Regan of DSG shared exciting news about the future of local maritime transport. He announced that Doyle Shipping Group, and Cross River Ferries, will shortly begin construction of a brand new hybrid electric ferry designed to serve both vehicles and passengers.
The vessel will be built locally at the dockyard in Rushbrooke, with construction set to commence in the coming weeks. The project represents a significant investment of approximately €4 million and highlights a strong commitment to sustainable and locally driven development.
Due to be completed in 2027, the new hybrid electric ferry will offer increased capacity for approximately 34 cars, enhancing service levels and will provide a notable upgrade on the existing ferry.
This forward-thinking investment reflects DSG’s continued leadership in innovation, sustainability, and regional connectivity, reinforcing its well deserved recognition as this year’s President’s Business Award winner. Congratulations!
